you know...i've had my headers on for a while now (about 6-7 months) and so far so good...I still get a little sound when getting on the gas but its not coins in the can...my guess after researching is resonance...anyway i was wondering for you guys with xs and exhaust...do you still have resonance with the exhaust or not? my headers are not wrapped either.

My XS headers are now a year old now and haven't had any issues. My car is a daily driver and these headers are holding up very well. Not only did I pick up some descent horsepower, but I gained some MPG and that really helped when the gas prices started to soar. Should they crack for any reason, I would not hesitate to pick up another set.....

Update:

Headers have been on now for about 1 year and no problems noted.

They still look good as new . . oh, wait . . . I had them ceramic coated so of course they will.

Damn!! That's CRAZY!!! I got the "coin in a can" sound after being revved up too but I'm COMPLETELY STOCK.

All this info on XS headers it priceless. Hopefully I'll be able to get some this summer when I get around to ordering them.

The other day when I was leaving my uncle's house I started the car and was pulling out of the driveway when he motions me to stop. He's says you've got an exhaust leak somewhere. I thought I had noticed something earlier, but wasn't sure, but with him standing outside the car he could definitely hear it. The noise was only there for the first 10-15 seconds and then was gone. Before I go and loosen and retighten everything, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of the most likely culprit on the headers. I have been getting resonance and am going to wrap the flex pipe in a few weeks time (the resonance has been there since I installed them a couple of years ago). Could the flex pipe be the culprit and then stop leaking once it warms up a bit?

I got a shop in the area that did it for $235. That included prep work, which you'll need on new headers as well.

I assume the old header to the block bolts can be reused? If I wanna replace them too, what are the specs on them?

I don't think I posted anything here after I installed my XS headers. Before the install, i wrapped the flex pipe with heat-wrap really well. After the install, i noticed a big difference. It sounded a little raspy when revving it up, even with the flex pipe wrapped...kinda leads me to think our factory cats sound like crap with all that extra air coming out of them. for the first month, when i accelerated, the headers made this wooshing sound as some of you have mentioned, but it was almost in a clicking motion...however, thats gone away now and the exhaust sounds pretty damn good, except for when i rev it up in neutral and you can hear the cat (which still has less than 50K miles). I like the factory mufflers, but i am thinking about doing a whole custom, one-piece exhaust with a new cat, resonator, and either one or two mufflers. I think the car would sound better.

Well finally I can post here as a proud owner of the xs headers. I did some research before and inquired about the install of the headers and this thread was a great help. They were brand new headers and installed with the upgraded nuts and bolts. Install went smoothly, as the post mentioned earlier, there is a whooshing sound but thats about it. I do feel the power especially at 5k and above. I did not wrap the flex pipe, I will let time pass to see if I need to wrap the pipes as I only had the headers for a couple of days. All in all, for the price, and a few upgrades to the components this is a worthy mod for our cars!

Arg. $28 each for the exhaust manifold gaskets or $14 each if I order online but $10 shipping makes it damn near even. Think I may just get them locally and return them if I don't need them.

I would get it locally, that way you can just go return them and not deal with shipping them back , it would be much quicker, hope your install goes well.

Fel-Pro offers a manifold gasket at a much better price then the stealership but it doesn't appear that it has bolt holes in the right place. What do people think?

This looks like the crap they give you with the XS headers...but it doesn't even look like the right shape!!

I would definetly stick with stock or similar. My car had low miles so i didn't even worry about the gaskets my stock ones held up fine. I would guess if you're in the 75k miles or more range you should definetly but new ones. I think i was around 40k when mine went in...no leaks.

Those pictured are the Fel-Pro gaskets that are suppose to be for the CL-S. The ones that come with the XS Power headers are the right design but crappy quality.

I see how you are trying to save money. However , the only reason you are even considering new gaskets is because you want the install to go smoothly and you want the car to run good. My 2 cents would be to shell out the money for the OEM gaskets, upgraded nuts and bolts, and do the install. This is a small price to pay for knowing that the headers were installed with good quality parts, because the components that came with the XS headers are crap.

Had my headers put in today. Got some OEM gaskets, upgraded bolts, and wrapped the flex pipe before the install. The mechanic had to heat up and bend the downpipe slightly because it wasn't lining up right. Anyways, they're on perfect now. Hit some traffic on the highway on the way home, so i didn't get to really push it, but getting onto the highway was fun. 3rd and 4th gear really pull. Love the sound also. I noticed a tiny bit of the wooshing sound ppl talked about, but it's barely there. Overall very pleased.

Called the local stealership and ordered the gaskets today. Asked about the bolts to the cat. He said they're $16 a piece. Can these just be replaced with any old bolt? #4 in the picture.

I have xs headers, and RT cat. Installed both at the same time, made install quite easy bc I didn't have too remove the old cat from the stock header. However I still have stock exhaust, what is your question?

Yes. It's just a bolt and nut, nothing custom or specialized.
I replaced mine when I installed my headers. The old ones were rusted out completely.

Also get heat-treated ones if you can (grade 8,10). Will make it easier to remove in future if needed.

I bought my rt cat from excelerate he said it would fit and it did. I think it was actually made for the cl-p. Anyhow for it to fit with no codes Josh from excelerate told me I needed a 02 extension wire. He recommended buying the gasket and bolt kit for easy install. I didn't have to worry about saving any of the old stuff. Glad I did saved alot of time, and for the extra 30 or whatever dollars it was worth it trust me. If you plan on getting one i'd order from him so you know your getting the right parts for your car he knows whats up.
02type-s... So as for the sound difference all I can go on is how the xs and rt sound together. After the flex pipe got wrapped it sounds quite at idle, and at low rpm, and highway cruising. When you get on it, as everyone likes to say on here it kinda gets that g35 thing goin on. I love it, so do my friends, and girls seem to like it too which is important. Not to loud at all and thats what people describe the xs sounding like without the rt cat installed. So my guess it wont change sound much if any.

thanks for the advice on the cat. How much does josh sell them for?

I wrapped my flex pipe before install and it worked fine. i have a little raspiness to me exhaust now, but it is a little throatier, i guess G35-like. I feel that the slight raspiness is from my factory cat, however. I would like to straight-pipe it or do a high flow cat. People have told me the car runs better without a cat and even get better gas mileage without it and a good size exhaust, don't know how true it is.
