Cruisin'
Well i own both '03 g35 6spd sedan and '04 TL 6spd (recent). I just feel a ton of power driving my G and feel it launches way better. RWD go figure huh. I havent go redline with TL but i think G should beat you initially.
But then again, did they say G and TL have same 0-60?

They are the g35x and are a sedan, not a coupe. Looking online both cars put down almost identical times so it could be a drivers race. I think if it is not an awd car then you would lose for sure.

I had two G35 6MT sedans (an '03.5 and an '04) and they definitely felt quicker than my TL 5AT. I never did any timed runs but the VQ35 engine is very torquey and pulls strongly (it does get rough in the upper revs). I always had problems with hard launches though -- wheelspin through 1st gear (followed by chirps in 2nd and 3rd). Both cars came with all-season tires from the factory and I didn't keep the cars long enough to warrant changing them.
However, an AWD G35 5AT carries a bit more weight and the engine output is less (it was commonly known that the 6MT sedan was tuned similarly to the coupe).
I personally think it would be a close race but would probably bet on the G35 because of the potential for a better launch.

Tough call
Infiniti is known to have mOre horses than acura especially stock and if you add performance mods to your Acura u will still be under the horses an Infiniti holds and If they add performance parts u might as well give up............. not to sure of the older model g series I know the newer ones have 330 horse power on the 37 ... All I can say is good luck would love to know if you whoop him or not.........:. I'm a firm believer in it's the driver though ..........tl comes with enough horses and has amazing handling pretty much a good enough balance where if you know your car you could run with he best of em..............keep us posted

According to wiki the g35 sedan weighs in at 3,472 lb (1,575 kg) so adding another 308lbs to account for awd should put the weight at 3,780 lbs compared to the tl's 3,480 lb (1,579 kg) and 258hp, which gives:
tl with 258hp/233tq/3,480lbs/ff
vs.
g35 with 261hp/258tq/3,780lbs/awd
vs.
g35 with 261hp/258tq/3,780lbs/awd
I would take out your spare, tools, jack etc and anything else that you can to shed some more weight. It will be a close race but def win-able. Try for a rolling start to remove the awd advantage. Good luck!

This a topic that's been beaten to death within Acurazine over the years. Granted, these discussions were prevalent when both the 1G G35 and 3G TL were new vehicles....not the used (dubiously maintained) cars most see today.
A G35X should beat an 05 TL 5AT, particularly as the auto tranny in the TL kills much of the TL's performance....which is not as much the case with the AT/AWD setup in the G35X. (Driving the TL 5AT back to back with a TL 6MT reveals a night and day difference.)

Well, technically you should compare the TL's pre-'06 power ratings of 270 hp/238 tq, since you're doing it with the G. If Nissan hadn't switched to the rev-up engine in '05, that 261/258 rating would have dropped into the 240's for a horsepower rating, although I suppose it's a moot point since the 03-04' vq35 in the sedan was notoriously underrated anyway.

Manufacturers love to play with crank numbers because customers put way too much stock in them actually. GM always did it with the Vettes/Camaros/GN's, as did BMW with the 335i. They can never overshadow their flagship cars. I think the TL-S is a bit underrated as well, considering both the 5AT and 6MT consistently dyno ~30 whp over their base counterparts, yet they're rated at only 28 more crank horsepower.
I think Infiniti figured the coupe buyers were more performance oriented, so they'd mind screw them into thinking they were getting more power than sedan buyers.

leave VSA on lose everything in your trunk and everything that isnt in the car from the factory.
make sure your oil level is on par and your coolant is on par.
it will be a close race and i wouldnt have bet 100 dollars but it will be a fun challenge. i would do a race from 0-100 and not to 60 because you will be smoked.
the 04g is the pre-HR model and doesnt make as much power as the 06+

I have a different opinion about VSA. WHEN wheels start to spin, VSA cuts fuel and applies brake to spinning wheel. It is NOT launch mode in a Porsche.
Be careful what you ask for. Do you want that or would you rather feather the throttle yourself in manual mode?
That's what I mean by driver competence. If I were you, I would practice launches until you see what works best for you.
With VSA off, you will spin the wheels all the way through first and some of second but it is controllable with practice. It's only the first 50 feet or so where it can get dicey with too much spin. After that, just floor it and let it have its head.
All this depends on road/track surface, temperature, elevation, tire pressure. Many variables.

Tips and Hints From a Drag Wizzard.
Forgot to mention.... losing 120 pounds is like finding 10 more horsepower. Weight is very important to acceleration. Inertia and all. You have a big advantage starting out with about 300 pounds lighter. That's like 20-25 HP. So, empty the car and trunk (as someone already recommended. Remove the spare, jack, tools.)
Now hear this: Sixteen gallons of gas (a full tank) weighs almost 100 pounds. Try to time it so you are almost empty. This will also help keep more weight on the front drive wheels where you need it. Another way of saying this is that the difference between a full tank and empty tank can be half a car length at 60 MPH.
We won't get into YOUR weight or that of your girlfriend. You know where I'm going. Once, I talked an opponent into letting my video guy ride in his back seat to video the race putting 250 pounds into his car. He didn't realize that would make a difference. But ALWAYS be the only one in your car and cut back on the pizza. LOL

If he is the least bit competent, you will lose undoubtedly. While my mom had an 08 with the HR, that thing was FAST. It definitely felt faster than my full bolt on 6MT Accord. Was it? I don't think so, the VQ is just so smooth and has way more torque. Despite the heavier weight, usually a car with more torque will feel faster. I'm sure it would've been a really good race.
With that said, even if you race 0-100 you should lose by over 1 car length. The gap he puts on you from the launch should stay pretty equal throughout the race after 1st gear. You probably won't pull at all.

Welllll I say from a 30-40mph roll you'd take him...I'd put money on that race. The Xs are a LOT heavier and with more drivetrain loss the TL should take the cake. Everybody on here acts like there is a 100hp difference between the 6mt and 5at when in reality there is a 15whp difference.
