Talking G37 owned by my BASE 3.2 (yes, you read that right!)

I got my CPO 08 WDP TL in May and since then it has always been pampered and driven like a grandpa. For one because when you get something new you tend to try to take care of it. Secondly because it was the most expensive thing I have ever bought so I never really got to stretch her legs to see what she has to offer. Well last night I was heading home from my brothers house and decided to have a "spirited" drive among the many highways in NYC. When I exited off my last highway close to my house I noticed a black g37 coupe tailing me and on my ass. So i decided to get some daylight between me and him. At the light he pulled up next to me and I already knew what the deal was. We did 3 runs light to light and I whooped his ass all three times. I felt proud knowing my humble ALL STOCK 3.2 could take on the likes of a 3.7 liter performance luxury coupe. Just to let you know I was about to get my fuel warning so I was running light. Car had no junk in the trunk and I only weigh a measly 130 lbs. The TL had the advantage all the way from 0-70 and pulled away. He would close coming to the light but I would always edge him by half a length. FYI I know this is not "acceptable behavior" for the street. Let it be known that him and I were the only cars on the road and no lives were endangered.

I think there is a related story on the G forums where he said he did not feel like wasting his gas on the TL!

I never asked this question but I think has relevance now. Different car magazines and blogs test the same car and sometimes have different results for 0-60 and 1/4 mile. Is there a standard? If I only had 3 gallons x 8.35 (weight of 1 gallon of water) the total fuel weight in my car is ~27lbs, If the G had a full tank it would 20 gallons x 8.35 which is ~ 167lbs. That is a big difference.

Yet you still did it. Not just once, but 3 different times at speeds in excess of 70 mph.

Nah, you're not an IDIOT...

Thats because he was not losing. he prolly posted that some dude in a TL tried to race him 3 times! but he didnt need to waste the gas just him how completely destroyed he would be.

he had 5 passengers and a 500lb system perhaps?

that weight difference on the best day may net .15 second in a quarter mile.

your looking at a large difference to 60.

Decisions are based on circumstances, I felt it safe enough that I took the risk. Listen I didn't start the thread to glorify my actions, I created the thread because honestly I was shocked I beat him and quite frankly so was he.

Hate to tell you this, but I'm sure he just wanted to get to his destination and you were driving a little too slow. So perhaps he tailed you, hoping that would mildly provoke you into driving a bit faster. I guess it worked.

Two things I do not do with my 07' TLS: Try to take on a BMW (ANY MODEL) or Infiniti G37/G37X. Just last week I was pulling onto Rte 287 here in NJ with a BMW on my ass, I nailed it, pulled away at first but the BMW quickly caught up & passed me as if I was going backwards, it was an older 535. I could understand catching up to me at a slower pace, but he instead caught up FAST. I've faced the facts, my 07' TLS is slow as molasses on a winters day. Looks great, but slow.

Hmmm...

I don’t agree with 2 car spirited driving because all drivers aren’t created equally, and of course the pokey isn’t very fond of it either.
I’m glad nobody got hurt, but glad to know that my 08 Base TL have a dog in a fight with a base G37.

Thanks for the post and be safe…..

I too agree he WAS NOT racing you.
I had a run in with a 08ish 350z who I "spirited drove' against, from one long light to the next. And he spanked on my ass, 1st -2nd wasnt that bad at all my car stood its ground even from midway thru 2nd but I could tell the 350 had alil more he wasnt letting lose 2nd -3rd FORGET about it he handed me my ass. And I think he was toying with me he was an older man, I felt like he sonned me lol.

Mhmm in the face of overwhelming evidence, I'm starting to think this. Oh well knew it was too good to be true. I was thinking to myself there was no way this can be possible anyway.

Somethings wrong here
From 70 to 130 or something
new 335 coupe couldn't even pass my car
found the guy and car was Auto
Well...first thing he asked me was if my car was stock or not
Stock, just custom intake, and to me that's everything

But at that second my car was at perfect tone to run...except the 2 passengers inside the car

G37 should've walked you...hard. Not sure what happened. Either he wasn't racing full out or he and his 4 buddies weighed a solid 200 each. But on the street...............

MEKO: Wut? Lol. 335i = buslengths on a TL-s auto. Again, on the street though, meh...you never know.

Yup true story, I was shock too
I found the guy from MASSTUNNIG here to ask him if he missed a gear or something, he said Auto
and he was shocked too

It's somewhere on my progress thread.

He even started at front on the middle lane. Saw him floored, oh well we'll follow
It was 55mph road
We passed him, and both slowed a bit, then there was a car in frontof him but .5 miles away
he floored it to get in front of me
we floored it too, didn't let him pass, and he hit the brakes

he even stoped talking on FB fan page of masstunning
that bad

but my car was at perfect tone in that second
except the 2 passengers

How I know? I know my car
Gas + Air is everything
Weight too of course

It was a nice lookign coupe
Black, black rims, red painted side mirrors, red strip around rims

But I know it's impossbile to pass a G37, didn't even try but positive

The AARP gang will do that on occasion. When a car that is really not competitive like a TL or TL-S challenges me from a dig I just roll hard enough to keep the other cars bumper on my door where I can clearly see him. If he elects to hang in through part of second gear I will go hammer down & be gone.

Interesting thing about us AARP guys they are all over the place.

I was getting some dyno pulls of the beta unit done (WHP down slightly Torque way up - Still more work to do) at Mayhem Motorsports in Raleigh the Corvette/Camaro shop I use & some of the AARP guys were there. One guy has his brand new, still had the paper plates on it, CTS-V coupe getting a very cool looking CAI installed on the blower. The other had a GTO repainted an ugly yellow, don’t ask, totally redone right down to the brake caliper as an Australia Holden Monaro. The only thing to tip you off was the ram air hood & the left hand drive. The third AARP was a stock looking Corvette convertible except for the dual exhaust replacing the quads with a full 8 cylinder N20 system & roll bar.

http://www.mayhemmotorsports.net/

The shop owners DD is a worked on CTS-V 4 door totally stock looking except for the Mayhem decal on the glass. Got some PIC on my cell phone & as soon as my grand son gets home will have him show me how to get them off the phone & onto my laptop.

Anyway here is the latest dyno WHP is down from 375 & torque up from 373 in the last G4 dyno. Later yesterday got a boost leak error code putting me into limp mode, so the new dyno runs maybe artificially low.

Cant check it out because its raining but Terry Burger thinks if there is no actual leak the beta unit has a bad diode as some others have shown up in testing with similar issues.

A 335i coupe/sedan is faster than a G37 coupe. A G37 coupe has a better chance of hanging with a 335xi, which is AWD and a little slower once out of the hole.

G37 sedan and 335i can be close, but 9/10 the smart money's still on the BMW.

335 is not faster than a G37 coupe as I experienced
I don't go with numbers or dynos, at road, everythings different

Even a friend long time ago with this Type-S was able to keep up with 335 sedan

He once tried with a G37, it was his first and last
Forget G35 or other ones but G37S Coupe, don't get close

Even my 8th Gen Accord 6MT whops a TL-S.

Weight and HP make a big difference (if drivers are equal)
