Hesitation/stuttering while excelerating
I have a 06 TL, and as I am slowly accelerating say from 40-55 or so it feels like there is some hesitation/stuttering. if I accelerate faster it is not there.
any ideas?
thanks in advance, still somewhat new to this forum and have already found it VERY useful! Starting my 3 x 3 ATF change soon.

yes, auto trans.
I am getting all the necassary stuff to do some maintenance on my car soon. I have a week off coming up so what a better time than to spend it getting things running right and clean.
On the list:
3 x 3 ATF change
3rd and 4th gear pressure switch change
Plugs changed
Cabin and Engine air filters changed
and if all goes well will add a Lip spoiler and hopefully aspec kit!
and I am sure I will find some more to add to the list.

run a can of seafoam in just under half a tank of gas- to clean the injectors and other parts along the way..dirty injectors will cause many problems
then replace the plugs NGK Iridium is the only thing to use,,stock is actually best in this case!..get them at parts stores for ~8 bucks per

this is the only post i've seen when i've googled.

shouldnt need them yet but many do replace at 60-70kmiles and find improvement
You can remove 1 front plug and inspect- there are charts online if you dont know wear and color patterns
use only NGK Iridium
I would run seafoam or redline thru half tank of gas- max does =cleaning strength.
either will do a good job on getting any crud out of the system and may cure the problem
hows the air filter?

do you run only 91 or higher octane from a tier 1 quality station?
87 will mess your car up,,especially on hills!

If could be many things. Let's see what happens after you do the ATF (Redline racing hopefully) and switches. There's a good chance it may go away.

I think Honda needs to improve on their tranny. In my family, we have the Honda mini van, 03 tl, and 04 TL. All of them have shuddering issue. 04 tl have tranny replaced; 30k later shedder came back.

We know why they fail now. It's up to everyone to do the fluid change with the correct fluid (not Z1) and replace the pressure switches as PM. If only Honda would step up but instead they deny a problem exists.

Im also having the same problem from 3rd to 4th gear and i can feel it bogging at times when im driving slow. Looking to change out my plugs, Tranny ATF (amsoil ATF universal), filter, oil pressure sensor. Any other recommendations for my tune up? Thanks

Redline "racing" ATF.
Redline 5w-30 engine oil.
RP filter.
3rd and 4th gear pressure swtiches.
The racing atf and pressure switches will more than double the trans life. ATF should be done ASAP. Switches should be done every 50,000 or every 3-4 years.
Redline racing fluid can be substitued with Amsoil or Royal Purple racing "type F" non friction modified fluids. You can use their standard ATF but the non FM fluids will significantly reduce clutch wear and make the shifts much more positive.
Look for threads titled "very interesting conversation with my trans builder" and "racing atf" with the explanations of why.

^time to invest some of your time to make reference points, book marks, and quotes.
Sure, you'll be less personal and more like a robot but it'll save you some time and people can read and figure things out without you coming off as a jerk.
I know I get frustrated from posting the same things over and over again.

I'm having the same issue
I recently replace Automatic Transmission Fluid and also replace 3rd and 4th pressure switch.
shudder happens when i'm going at 30-40 MPH gear between 3rd and 4th maybe 2nd
I'm planning to replace Transmission mount and change filter and see if that helps to solve the problem
I have 2004 Acura TL AT with 169k miles on it
I thought that replacement of front and side mount would solve the problem but it didn't.

So far I'm still experiencing the surging/chugging sensation between 40-50mph.
I dont have check engine light on and I experience it with all types of gas. It's happening lately whether it's cold or not.
Here are three recommendations people have made:
1) TPS Throttle Position Sensor (https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...79#post2114345)
2) Tranny fluid needs changing (not sure if i've ever had that done..)
3) Motor mount (from this thread)
4) Possible clogged fuel filter, plugs, o2 sensor, etc...
Any idea where I should start, the chugging is getting worse it seems and others in the car are noticing it not just me.

Its pretty amazing how many different things can cause our TL's to have a shuttering/hesitation/surging type feeling. Some people replace the APP sensor, some replace the IAT sensor etc etc. Not mine, I have tried so many things and no luck so far. The surging im getting in the low to mid rpm's on my 08 Type S 6mt seems like its gotta be computer, fuel injector, fuel pump related. I just dont see what else it can be since I have done almost everything I can think of. It is for sure more noticeable when its hot out though, but still does it all the time regardless of temp.

maybe clogged cats or oxygen sensors, funny thing cause the other day i installed richies v3 Precat deletes and now my car is peppy even when it shows 115F outside, although i still have that octane booster in the gas so we will see how she behaves once i put a fresh tank of gas without any additives.... but im thinking it might have been something with the cats and oxygen sensors. Of course thats another guess but lets see. The cat deletes improved power troughout the whole rpm range....

Well I have already run over a quarter tank with pure 100 octane race gas which did not fix the surging. So I would assume a tiny bottle of diluted out octane booster would have no effect on how my car runs.

I know this thread is a little old but I'm sure people still experience the same "SHUDDER" problem. I had my tranny rebuilt for my 01 CL-S. After about 15K miles it started to shudder at those exact same speeds between 3rd to 4th gear changes. My Tranny dude added some stuff called Dr. Tranny Shudder Fix. Within 3-4 minutes of stop and go driving it was gone completely and 20K miles later the "SHUDDER" hasn't returned. The shudder is coming from your "Torque Converter". Really weird how people are recommending some of these off the wall things, like: spark plugs, cats, sensors, octane boosters etc. I don't think this was about hesitation, bogging out, low idle, or loss of power. Trust me Dr. Tranny WORKS. Do some research on them and check for yourself. I highly recommend it.

hate to resurrect this thread but wanted to give heads up to anyone who might have this issue. I have 2 TL 1 manual and 1 auto it happened to both. Like op said if u have auto do the 3x flush. Wont fix but will help and u should be changing ur oil regularly if u want ur transmission to last. Next you can do ecu reset as stated earlier nice umph afterward. But what resolved it on both cars was changing the egr sensor. This is the stutter around 45 to 50 mph. ive done 4 and all 4 this solved the issue. Hope this helps anyone out there.

I have a '16 tlx with 12K miles. It has an acceleration problem. When accelerating from a stop, then stop accelerating and coast for a second then try to accelerate, the rpm dies, then with further depression on the accelerator, the engine rpm decreases then accelerates lurching forward spinning the tires. This also happened with our '12 tl. The dealer after years of complaining they replaced the torque converter. Still the same problem. My wife says it's the way I drive. Never happens with me Ford F-150. It's not my driving. Any ideas?

Drifting
You may have better luck posting this in the correct forum that is specific to the TLX. However, from the basic description you have provided...it sounds like driving habits could possibly be the culprit. My wife's 2015 Terrain doesn't play nicely with my driving style either with similar issues you have when leaving from a stop quickly and then back off the throttle. It either holds the gear way too long, or it shifts and then downshifts again the moment I hit the gas again....no matter, it causes for some interesting glares from the passenger seat when I am driving.

hesitation due to EGR valve
I read your post about the stutter and how replacing EGR valve fixed it. Im having an issue where the car has a lot of power and then suddenly it just drags. You need to hit the gas much harder to accelerate. Almost feels like excessive engine braking. Just has a lot less power. Then suddenly, you can feel like something changed and the car coasts easier and has a lot more power. Is this what you experience. I did clean my ear valve but maybe its the valve is just not functioning properly. For me, no check engine light as well. I just wanted to ask before I replaced it( kind of expensive) Also I chanced the battery, the IAT sensor, the APP sensor, and PCV. Really appreciate it. By the way, it an 04 6 speed. THanks
