Arrrrrrh freaking cracked dashboard in '05

Hi all!
I pucharsed this nice blk on blk tl 5 months ago at decent price. However since 2 weeks ago, the air bag light is on intermittently and I figured it out that the dash board has 3 " cracks today. I saw a lot of threads about the cracked dashboard in AZ forums so I called Acura dealership today and had an appointment to check the SRS light in tmrw. After I set up an appointment and the operator connected me to service department to check the dignose fee. They told me that it would be $145. Do I have to pay for that? All I want to know is how much they could charge for replace the dash board and I am assuming that the cracked dashboard could casuing the airbag light on.
What do youguys think? I am getting desperated to solve this problems.

The airbag light is probably a bad clock spring in the steering wheel... the one in my tacoma just went out and caused the airbag light to come on. i doubt a cracked dash would cause that.

Yea the airbag light probably has nothing to do with the dash. As for the cracked dash, your cheapest route is to get one of these covers from here http://www.dashtopper.com/shop.net/T...oductInfo.aspx. The dealer will charge up to $2k ro replace.

many theories...extreme heat from sitting in sun, then the cold air blowing from the AC under the dash...the dash drying out (though i think this has been disproven from others religiously using aerspace 303 on the dash). as far as i know i haven't heard of the cracked dash vibrating while driving the car.

where did the car live prior to your ownership? where is it living now? it seems that most people with the cracked dash issues are in the southern regions of the US where they get A LOT of sun and heat. there is a facebook page as well.

the dealer will easily charge $2k to replace. sorry to say, since you just got the car, they are more than likely NOT going to goodwill a dime of it (no pre-existing relationship) and neither will acura corp. if they do it'll be shocking. the airbag light...seems to be a separate issue. and the typical diagnositic fee is usually around $115-120. $145 seems pretty steep.

the cracking from what i have read will only get worse and your dash ends up looking like the grand canyon.

yes, I live in Hawaii but the problem is that I don't park my car at outside because my work shift is from 5pm to midnight and I have a parking lot inside of my apartment so as far as I know the car will not expose the sunlight in daytime. I don't use the spray to protect or wipe the dashboard either. I guess the airbag and cracked dashboard would be seperate issue since I searched in this forum. lol
I will call the acura client relations first so that heads up for my issue to honolulu acura dealship.

It does not have anything to do with the cracked dash. $145 to diagnose an SRS light is crazy. I would almost bet that it is a faulty driver belt buckle code. If it is a seat belt tensioner or buckle then it is lifetime warranty and diagnoses should be taken care of with the repair. If not then its on you and you pay full boat.

All I can say is get ready to pay some good "mula" for the freeking dash!! And on top of that another sack of Washingtons for the installation! Then again you can do it yourself, but it is a REAL PAIN IN THE ASSSSSSS!

Sorry to hear about your airbag and dash, seems like a ton of people are having problems with cracking dashes. I guess I'm just lucky.

Go ask for a goodwill on the dash issue. I did and they originaly quoted me $593.00. However they did give me 2 months to "think about it". Worked some OT and took it in to get it done. and the dealer actually stepped up and covered more than what was quoted. ended up costing me $450. Considering it cost 2k for the total replacement I was happy.

Never hurts to ask dude. The worst they can do is say "no".....

hey thanks dude! Today I went to the acurahonolulu to check the SRS and also asked about the cracked dash board. The service advisor was kind of nice to me and he already noticed about the TL's cracked dash board and he saw a lot threads from the website.
After few hours later, the guy called me your car is done and the SRS light is caused by faulty of seat belt tensioner. So NO CHARGE AT ALL. Yay!! He also offer me that the cracked dash board can cover by acura goodwill which I have to pay $300+tax instead of paying $2200. I was like hmmm okay it is not that bad than I expected because I saw some people paid more than that.
The service advisor told me it will be shipped around 3 weeks so all I have to do is wait for the parts. I am so glad I can fix my problems.
Thanks for advise me. Youguys are rock!!!

I also have a cracked dash AND SRS warning light issues. I dropped my car off at Mac Churchill Acura in Ft. Worth last week for both issues. They were nice but couldn't do a thing about the dash. They replaced both seat belt sensors. I went to pick the car up and found that now the SRS warning light was still on! This was actually different than my previous issue. Before it came on after driving a few miles. Now it was on from the get go. So there must be ANOTHER problem with the system. Possibly related to the cracked dash?? At any rate, I didn't take my car home.

Update: I picked my car up with the SRS light fixed. They of course said it was unrelated. I received a phone call from Acura and they offered to replace my dash for the low cost of $1,050. I did not accept as I shouldn't have to pay a $1,000 to fix and issue that is Acura's fault. I am currently planning to contact a lawyer. I am researching class action lawsuits right now.

Did anything come of this? My 2004 dash is cracked and I'd like to replace it but want to have all the information I need first. Thanks.
