Woke up today and thought it was a good day to finally put on the new wheels I got. It was warm roughly around 55-60 degrees. Good day to put the wheels on. Had it all done by 3:00 in the afternoon. I was pretty happy. until about an hr. ago. On my way to my girlfriends house, I hit a pot hole on the inner lane on the grand central going towards La guardia airport. damn that pot hole bad. The hole was not noticeable therefore if you do drive on the grand central, quick heads up dont stick on the inner lane after it split into La Guardia airport. My rim is now bent, and the wall of my tire is partially wripped. Now on to pictures......

my tire is currently leaking air. Does anyone know if its due to the bent or because of the rip on the wall of the tire?

I think you can get a new rim for the cost of repairing it. I think the tire is leaking because of the bend not the rip. You can spray soapy water on the tire rip to check for a leak. Good luck.

got it checked out 2day, and found out the rim is not repairable therefore I have to get another rim, but luckily, the tire is still good :-)

Almost everywhere in the north east is terrible after all that snow we got this year, and with NY being in the financial state that its is in right now, I don't think the roads are going to be getting any better any time soon....

even though I am running my stock wheels with stock suspension right now (was toooo low for the snow) and will not be putting my suspension and wheels back on for a while... I still drive with low and slow attitude... The Cross-Bronx got me for 2 sets of rims already... I cracked/bent 2 wheels twice on there.... will not happen a third time

File a claim, I filed one a few weeks ago; waiting to see if they will pay up.

I am sorry that happened, hitting potholes are on the list of top 3 things to make me furious.

BUT, you get what you pay for with respect to wheels... Judging from that bend, I can say that a lot of wheels would get bent, regardless if they are cast, flowformed, or forged, but the extent to which the bend is induced greatly varies on the quality of the wheel. I'm pretty sure XXR wheels are made from the cheapest cast aluminum.

^ my first thoughts. all wheels bend.... but cheaper wheels bend easier...

as for LGA area... the middle lane, heading westbound, used to have a SPEED BUMP in the middle of the road... i am always very cautious in that area

Yup.. I have hit the exact one you are referring to. I know keep it at 40 mph in the extreme right lane everytime I take it now... but if I can avoid GCP I do .. LIE is slightly better getting into Manhattan.

not to get off topic that much how much did the repair cost you for that rim?

Good repair and refinish will cost you $150-$175... cheap ones will cost you $75 in queens. I recommend Kevin .. at SL Metal. He's in Babylon and comes very highly recommended by many forums across the internet .. compared to AL's hubcaps.

I used him once and I was very impresses with his customer service, when I had a problem. He made sure to get it fixed even if it took multiple tries and didn't start complaining or trying to avoid me.

His number: 516-343-8824. You can always mention my name Raj with the Black TL and the "never ending dropping tire pressure." Mention that and he'll get a good laugh.
