Angry Costco Shopping Cart

A fucking Costco shopping cart hit my car and fucked my driver door up anyone have past experience with these type of situations? Can I persue a claim against Costco, will they take responsibility?

I think I might need a new door skin. Bruce can you give me a price for a 09 TL left front (drivers) door skin. Thanks.

Damn man, that's some bad luck. I still think we should roll to the meet if your not getting it fixed today. As long as everything works we should be able to get there. My car looks like shit today after a 7 hour drive yesterday so we can look like shit together lol.

Update: there's also damage to my left side rear corner panel, I noticed it this morning under better lighting.

I went to Costco this morning to file a claim and it seems as though they're going to help me. A manager from the store looked at my car and aligned a shopping cart with my damages and it was very clear that all the pertruding points on the cart matched up with all the dents on my car. Had me fill out forms, said he'll log the incident and that corporate should get back to me shortly. Quote on quote from the managers mouth, "it happened on our property so we're responsible". I've got my hopes up, but regardless I will report it to geico tomorrow, to cover myself incase corporate doesn't share the managers point of view. My body shop of choice initially was hestistant to have me report it (with my best interest in mind), but when they saw the damages he immediately said report it, this will cost well over 500 to repair.

Glad to hear Costco (or at least the manager) is glad to help you out. I wouldn't've thought about going after them directly, maybe ask to look at security tapes or something.

I was at a mall in Michigan a few weeks ago and I witnessed someone literally push the cart down the parking lot (which was sloped) after he had finished packing his groceries. I had to run a few steps and stop it before it hit a Trailblazer. Absolutely ridiculous what some people will do.

On the bright side, I guess now you'll be more motivated to park farther away.

Responsibility for parking lot damage depends on lots of things.

First, disregard that sign that says that they are aren't liable for anything - it means nothing. But it also doesn't mean that they are responsible.

They are clearly not responsible for the idiot that just shoves his cart out into the middle of the lot on a windy, but they do have an obligation to provide ample and convenient places to return carts and to police carts regularly.

That means that they should be sending people out more often on inclement, windy and busy days to keep damages from happening, but they aren't automatically responsible if damage does happen. A review of the video cams might give clarity.

In this case, it sounds like COSTCO is at least willing to consider liability.

Good luck.

Unfortunately there are no video cameras in the park lot other than the ones directly in front of the building, or so I'm told.

Aspecallday, not that I don't believe your friend runs a capable shop but I'm a very particular customer. When a shop does a job and it's mediocre, doesn't hold up or just isn't what they promised I get frustrated and make my problem theirs. Which to some shops is unheard of because they're not use to dealing with informed customers that have a lot of vested interest in their vehicles. I'm going to go to proformance in New Rochelle. From what RJ tells me and I've seen those guys will understand that I expect what's promised because they're not doing me any favors, I'm paying for their service(s).

You dont have FB so i'll let you know now, they are going to be expensive cuz they do work on the higher end of cars aka lambo's, ferrari, they even had a fisker karma. But if it isn't coming out of your pocket who cares as long as the work is beyond expectation. Yesterday was REALLY windy out here so that could benefit you because they should've been more aware of carts and like ceb said, it is their responsibility to maintain them.. He's here on AZ something like bigdog or something like that.

i am the same way back in october i had a lil too much to drink and i told my friend to drive he made it all the way to my garage where he decided to scratch my entire left rear quarter panel on one of the concrete beams it was million times worse than yours. In fact i had to delete the pics i took because they made me want to kill him. if you go to my thread you will see the beam he hit

i called the dealer and spoke with a good friend of mine and he gave me the inside scoop on where they take their acuras to get fixed. I went to the place and saw a grave yard of acuras and when i entered the place it was like a delivery room for acuras......lol

I am just like you i am very picky when it comes to things i own especially my car.I handed my car over to him and when i got it back i couldnt believe how good of a job he did just unbelievable. Truth be told he wasent a friend of mine until he worked on my car and the fact that he treated me so well and every time i asked for something he was there.so customer service was great quality of work was even better.

GL with everything just hurts me to see bad things happen to nice cars

Heard they were pretty pricey as well. I liked them on their facebook page. They get celebrities cars in and stuff.. but if you don't gotta pay yourself then you're all good like infamous said

I know they're expensive, every time I've been there I've seen 200k+ exotics, today it was a custom painted gallardo with one off wheels they designed and manufactured just for it, last time it was a 430, and the time before that it was an SLR mcclaren. They're expensive but I demand the best for my mickey moose TL, and it's not coming out of my pocket so meh..

Free roaming carts in parking lots is one of my biggest fears when parking in these types of places next to people opening their door too wide. People should really return them to cart bays instead of just leaving them next to the parking space they were in.

For now yes. I could go to fort Washington but they're a geico approved shop (in bed with geico will cut cost as much as possible with repairing not replacing and I'd possible aftermarket parts), and although they do great work (paint, body panel alignment, etc), Tom told me Geico won't get me a new door skin, I know a non geico affiliated shop will.

Carlos-
I was at Proformance yesterday. One of the employees (who is actually a Mod here on AZ... Shhhhhh!) was on the phone with East Coast Customs when I walked in. They do AWESOME work. I actually bought new wheels for the TL, should be in by Monday. If you need anything just text man you have my number.

Sucks bro, hope you get it fixed. Were you parked on the upper level or underground assuming this is the Costco in Y.O.

Yonkers Costco. I was parked at the upper level just a few yards from the upper level railing. I usually park by the hydrant but didn't feel like parking there that night since there were less than 30 cars on the entire upper lot.

Thats usually when something happens, when you expect it not to happen.

My mom parked deep in the parking lot to stay away from everyone and a tractor trailer trying to leave the parking lot ripped part of her front bumper.
