Hey! I wish I would have known about you guys! Lately i've seen a couple of AZINE rides, most recently an RL with a set of RJ's.

I need help from someone local. My 01 CL-S is wearing the inside and outsides off the front tires, especially the driver's side. Has anyone had this problem and what did they do / where did they take it? Andre at Midnight Perfomance is going to look at it on wednesday.

Thanks!
Matt

1. Who are you? lol
2. is that midnight performance in rancho off sunrise?
3. for uneven tire wear, try getting an alignment first. your shocks maybe gone too.

1) Matt - we've never met.
2) Yes
3) Did that and the numbers came back perfect. The standard "bounce test" doens't reveal any immediate problem with the shocks. There are no evident leaks but with 162k+ on the car, I imagine there could be a lot wrong.

The only way to accurately measure shock absorber performance (on-the-vehicle) is with a Hunter SA400:

http://www.hunter.com/PUB/undercar/4187T/index.htm

But at 162k+, the are probably toast. However, failed shocks usually causes feathering.

For suspension work, the guys at Les Schwab in Elk Grove are fantastic. Only the ones in Elk Grove though.

Wow - that was certainly a good use of information. I don't disagree with you that they're shot, but would like to know because changing struts aren't an easy under taking.

Struts are fairly easy work. I can probably knock out a set of fronts and rears in under two hours if I really hustled. Get a buddy to help you and you can have all four done for under $250.

compressor helps tons and a spring compressor is needed. Its not too bad once you know what your doing. I saw a friend tackle it, no special tools needed. I'll even take out the rear seat for you to get you started.

so the middle of the tires have good thread depth while the sides are worn?

midnight performance is a good shop. The former owner, warren, did my 105k for me while Sodaluvr and me were there

Thanks!

What did you guys put under your cars for struts / springs?

The wear mimics underinflated tires but they aren't underinflated. The stock sizes wore out in the same way the new tires did. I thought it was because of the way I was driving but it isn't.

For lowering springs, Koni Yellow shocks is what I have and recommend. If you want to roll on stock springs, Tokico blue series shocks should be ok.

Sup Val

Im running stock shocks on my H Techs. I had them on when I had my S-techs too but thats probably why I scraped in the front. I plan on tokico blues next for me.

Tokico Blues and the S-Techs are what I run on my car. A great set-up, IMO. The ride is just off from stock, which was my goal.

I've done all my own work on cars but have never kept a car long enough to change the struts. I don't have access to a shop anymore, but I am glad my question amused you.

I live over near Sylvan Corners. Bring over a spring compressor.

Where did you guys buy your stuff? Online or locally?

If you are stock or close to stock, Monroe Sensa-tracks are tough to beat for the warranty and for the price (especially the constant promotions).

for 19's you would probably get a subtle drop like H-Techs. anything below 1.5 inches and your looking at rubbing

Hey guys. Gary, H-techs are claimed to be designed for OEM shocks. I don't know how true that is. Also a LOT of tsx owners complain about Tokico blues being bouncy and stiff. Maybe it has something to do with how big the drop is? But good luck there.
