New Member With Old TL
Hello, all! I just signed up after reading so many great threads regarding maintenance and mods issues I'm so glad to find such a great resource and so many like-minded Acura fans.
I am the original owner of a 1999 Pearl White TL, which I drove off the lot as a brand new car 17 years ago. I have now re-inherited the car from my daughter, who used it through her final two years of HS and four years of college after I bought an Infiniti M35 Sport (a great car). I gifted the TL to her as a first car (lucky!) after returning it to near-stock by replacing the CAI and Eibach Sport Springs. Its sole non-stock feature are the factory 17" wheels and tires from a 2004 TL, which fill out the wheel wells nicely and give the car a wider, sportier stance. The TL has only 122K on it, is now my "spare" car.
I recently rediscovered what a kick in the pants the TL is to drive after taking it on the back roads on the way to work for a few days. It is not as powerful as the M35, but is much more nimble, even with the stock suspension. In some ways, it's even more fun to drive than my wife's Porsche Boxster 986, which has a 2.7L mid-engine flat 6 (i.e., a "boxer"engine") and a manual 5-speed.I now have a serious bug up my ass about fixing all the little things that need attention on the TL, then doing a few performance upgrades for fun. (I've also rediscovered the joys of doing my own maintenance, and have bought a well-stocked arsenal of mechanics tools, a hyrdaulic jack, jack stands, and a creeper. My objective is to have a sporty spare car that is fun to drive and kicks a little ass, while still not coming across as a high schooler's concept car. One of the great features of a TL is that it can occupy a classy and understated performance space at a reasonable price. Also, unlike a Porsche, say, AM parts are plentiful. I think these are great under-the-rader performance cans that can be tuned pretty easily.
I am currently in the process of uploading all of the TL's maintenance records onto Acura's Owner's portal. The car has been serviced at only four different shops over the course of its 17 years, and I am able to include quite a bit of detail--right down to brand and weight of oil and brand of filters.

I'll warn everyone upfront that I am an unapologetic smart ass. Please, no one take that personally. It's just my way of being fun. Be forewarned: my funny to lame ratio is roughly 3 in 40. I'm having fun with my rediscovered treasure. Thanks for letting me join the tribe.

Hey, welcome man! That's awesome that your new-old car made it through the destructive teen/college years without getting wrapped around a phone pole or something.
Oh, and you'll probably find that there are a few wise-asses around here. Not me of course, I'm like the respected village elder. Wise beyond belief and revered by all. All are humbled by my presence.
Happy motoring!
