I have a 2007 Acura TL type s and when ever I crank my car white or gray smoke comes from my tail pipe then it goes away. I took it to autozone and it said catalytic converter and o2 sensor. I hope it’s one of the 2 and not a blow head gasket. Car is not running hot but i really fear having to spend 2000 to 3000 replacing the engine. Car has 225,000 miles
Welcome to the forum, @flizzgoodguy94! Given your TL Type S has 225,000 miles, it's good you're being proactive about this. While AutoZone's diagnostic suggesting catalytic converter and O2 sensor issues could be part of the picture, let's break down what that smoke might indicate:
The good news first - if the smoke only appears on startup and dissipates quickly, especially in cooler weather, it could simply be normal condensation in the exhaust system evaporating. This is harmless and common in many vehicles. However, given the mileage, here are other possibilities to consider:
• Oil consumption: Gray smoke typically indicates burning oil, often due to worn valve seals or piston rings. Do you notice you're having to add oil between changes?
• Head gasket concerns: While your engine not running hot is a good sign, a blown head gasket can start small before causing overheating. A quick way to check: does the smoke have a sweet smell (like antifreeze)? Is your coolant level staying consistent?
