Neb with first TSX

hey all. Just an old fart with a 1G TSX. My daughter bought an 06 new. It has 157k on it. She took it to a "mechanic" to repair a timing chain and bent valve problem. Ran like crap. She didnt want to spend any more money on it. She gave it to pops and I have finally got it all sorted. Guy put in the cheapest TC parts available. Tensioner was junk and made noise. Swapped all the junk out for Honda parts includind the VCT actuator. Did all the trans flushes and fixed all the other stuff that she let go. Runs perfect. Hoping to get another couple hundred thousand from it. This place helped get the jobs done.

Once again proving the old corporate adage that there's never enough money to do things right, but always enough to do things twice.

Sounds like you've got the right idea... Keep on top of the maintenance and change the oil regularly and no doubt you'll get to 300k. One of the members here, Clymerdude, hit 500k recently!

Welcome, and happy motoring!

Yep I agree. Obviously I have been a gearhead all my life so not afraid to tackle something. First thing I did was download the service manual. Just makes me crazy when someone uses cheap parts . This is a pretty complex little engine. Why try and save a hundred bucks on something so critical as timing parts ? Just stupid. I will definitely keep close eye on the oil. It had a leak in the timing cover seal so that was replaced too. For 157k miles this car is awsum ! Its smarter than I am ! BTW....at 6k rpm this thing boots you in the rear end with that Vtec stuff .

Out of curiosity, what other cars have you owned? Anything really cool? If so... We'll need to see some pictures.

Oh boy ! I have been a gearhead since I was about 7 years old. I guess it was just a thing that kids did back then. It never left me. Thats why I am not afraid to tie into a lot of DIY with whatever I own these days. The list is so long with cool stuff it would be hard to post them all. Mostly GM muscle cars. Remember we didnt have digital cameras and I only have digital pics of the best ones I have had in the past 20 years or so. Jeez I can list every single car I have ever owned. The baddest european car I have has was an E55 Benz. And to be honest it was probably as fast as most of the radical muscle cars I have had. Since I am now retired and broke lol....the last 2 cool cars besides the TSX that I have in the garage are a 9k original mile 1964 Belair with a 409/425 horse 4 speed and my fun ass driver is a 1961 Pontiac Bonneville Safari station wagon !!! The thing is an absolute barge. I can post some pics but I would have to figure out how here !

Oh boy! Bonneville Wagon

While I appreciate the versatility my wagon affords, I long for the days where you could hold a square dance in the "way back" of one of those.

Love the look of that Bel Air... I see one around town from time to time and it's just a beast.

Very nice. But the question begs to be asked... Are you hiding a '62 Bel Air somewhere?

That's actually one of the things that I really like about Acurazine... A lot of people here are just gearheads in general. I.e. some of these other guys posting in here don't even have Acuras anymore.

It's really cool to see the automotive diversity.

And I'm always intrigued when American iron guys start playing around with J-tin.

download the google app "photoscan"
it uses your phones camera and deep learning AI to "scan" the photos without glare and provides a copy equivalent to a scanned picture

for example, here's my pops CHP patrol car

Im nop seeing the CHP car but the only one left that I had was a 66 Hemi Charger and most people dont like those anyway ! I really didnt want to play around with the TSX but my daughter was tired of putting money into it after getting ripped off by a local guy. She just gave it to me. I inow one thing....stay the hell away from 3.1 Pontiac Grand Ams ! Hell the 2.4 is not much better. These are cars my youngest kids have. You learn quickly how to do lower intakes on the 3.1 . Had to do a ton to the 2.4 too. Timing chain was a joke. Had to take that out to replace a water pump since it is a chain driven pump with no way to remove from the outside. GM engineering at its finest. This TSX is really well built and it now runs and drives like a new car. Pearl white NAV with black leather. Pretty sharp.

Oh yeah here are e few more. One is a VERY early GTO funny car. One of the first all fiberglass GTO bodies made back in 66. This thing was scary crude. Would take huge balls to actually put your foot in it. Crappy pic as found but trust me. Scary. I sold it off too. Didnt want to even think about restoring it.
