Good evening everyone and greetings from SoCal. Been interested in getting a TLX type S for the last year or so and have been passively searching for one in my price range.. took awhile to find a nice low mileage example near me but was able to pick up this Apex Blue 2021 TLX Type S a week ago. Absolutely loving the car and im looking forward to learning more, meeting some fellow owners, and perhaps making this beauty of a car even more fun to drive. Anyone else in SD county?

Congratulations and welcome to the Type-S club and welcome to AcuraZine!!! How do you like it so far? How much attention does it get you on the street and at the gas pump (its a gorgeous looking car that commands its presence)? Are you interested in adding any of the OEM accessories, like carbon interior trim, illuminated door sills, etc. to jazz it up further?
Thank you! The car has been an absolute joy. My time with the civic was good but I felt I had outgrown the car. I drove an e46 330i and a 04 A4 Avant prior to purchasing a new civic sport. Even though those cars were a fraction of the price, they brought me a lot more joy and thrill to drive and I missed the feeling of having a sporty car. The car gets a lot of attention, I have had a few people acknowledge the car and give me compliments at red lights which is cool. One thing I have found is a surprisingly large amount of people are unfamiliar with the Type S specifically. A lot of people seem to pass it over as a Acura TLX with nice rims. I even went to a car meet and none of the people I spoke to were familiar with the Type S. Those who have acknowledged the car and the Type S specifically have been enthusiasts and people more tuned in with the car scene. That is something I like and part of what drew me in Type S direction to begin with, even though the m340's are a phenomenal car they are a dime a dozen out here in socal.
As far as accessories I would like to look doing an aftermarket splitter, but not until the OEM splitter needs replacing (which will be inevitable with the roads out here), I would also like to go carbon fiber on the Side mirrors and spoiler at some point. If opportunities present themselves to get other CF accents at a good price point, I would definitely be interested. As far as the performance goes, I don't think I will do much if anything out of respect for the warranties. I have looked into possibly going aftermarket with the downpipes. Either going high flow catted, or just going catless on the secondaries. Leaning more towards the latter, as it would be easier to replace and then swap back the OEM secondary DP if i needed to bring it in. I am having trouble finding out the emissions implications and if I would be able to pass smog.
The car has been an absolute joy and it feels good hopping in a car that you are proud of every morning, couldn't be happier with my decision.
Welcome to Acurazine. Congrats on the ride. I will also own one eventually, as I believe it's one of the most appealing aesthetics on the road today. If you don't mind sharing, how much did you spend on yours? Are there any aspects that you weren't aware of prior to ownership?
Its an absolutely beautiful car. I have no regrets buying it, I had been considering buying a Type S for a few months after seeing some POV driving reviews on youtube, but wasn't searching for one seriously. I had 2022 civic touring that served well as a commuter, but I did not particularly enjoy the car otherwise. I jumped the gun a bit buying the Type S, but there are so few that pop up for sale in Cali that are preowned/low mileage/affordable that it didn't really matter. At any given time, there are only a few preowned ones for sale and they are 2024's with 3k miles and out of my price range. The car was super clean and had been serviced more than necessary which was a good sign. It had 15k and had only been driving like 4k miles a year by the previous owner. Car was completely clean except for a scuff on the rear bumper next to the license plate, which I later found out, was the rear license panel and can be replaced on its own. In retrospect I would like to have landed in a 2023 with similar a number of miles but the car has barely changed year to year and who knows when that opportunity would have come. Anyways I paid 40k before fees and taxes for a stock 21 TLX Type S Apex Blue with brand new P0s, put 8k down, will refinance when rates get better, but I got the monthly payments to a place I am already comfortable at. It's been worth every penny because I have an absolute blast driving it, the sound system is phenomenal. When I take it out to the canyons and push it to the limits its absolutely euphoric. the one downside is the horrific fuel economy, but I will take it.
