Pulled over on the Mass. pike:unusual experience

I have a MI license and I was pulled over on the Mass pike in Massachusetts. I was doing about 85 in a 65 zone. I had just merged onto the pike and was building speed at that point. When the officer walked over I told him that I was the on-call physician and was heading in to the hospital for an emergency(which BTW is true). He checked my hospital ID and then took my MI license and registration and walked back to his cruiser. Came back in <5 minutes and returned my documents. He did not give me any tickets and just asked me to go. I asked him if that meant no ticket. He just said "wait and see" and walked back. I am not sure what is going on here, should I be calling the police department? Did he let me go? Do I expect something in the mail? My predicament is that I will be moving back to MI by the end of this week. I bought my car in MA recently and it is registered here and has my MA address on it. My license has my permanent MI address. Will they mail the ticket to my MA address or MI address? Any help from from MA residents would be appreciated. This happened right at the Framingham exit(Exit 12).

You won't be getting anything in the mail. He just wanted you to be paranoid, and it worked. You're lucky he let you go, they love writing tickets in that spot. I have many friends who have busted there and for only 80mph.

Wavehogger,
thank you for the response. I have been getting mixed answers regarding this. I called the Newton DMV and Framingham PD and both asked to watch out for 20 days to see if I get anything. But I could tell it is not standard practice to not hand out a ticket at the time of the incident. But he definitely got me paranoid. Also it is sad to know that your 09 was totalled. I was following your posts regarding the 0-60 times on the SHAWD. I hope you have found a fitting replacement.

You're welcome Rick, I think what they told you was just a standard answer, since they have no idea what the officer did, or is doing. I've only heard of a ticket being mailed if an off duty trooper sees someone do something really dangerous and manages to get the plate. I'm going to bet that he would have written the ticket there if you were going to get one. Of course I can't be sure so I don't want to say 100%, then you'll be growling at me later, lol.

Yea my baby is gone, sadly. I haven't mentioned on here yet what the replacement is, since no one else has asked. So now is as good a time as any. I loved the TL but haven't had a true RWD sports car for a number of years so I changed it up and went with a 370Z. I'm enjoying the heck out of it this summer and only have another 6 wks or so before I have to tuck it away for the winter.. Keep us posted on whether you get any surprises in the mail and have a safe trip back to MI, sorry to see you leaving Mass. All the best to you Dr. Sambora.

Wavehogger,
Great choice on the 370z. Having been a very satisfied 350z owner for 2.5 years, let me tell you that you will be waiting for the next spring with great anticipation.
Regarding the ticket: I HAD A $220 TICKET SITTING IN THE MAIL TODAY. Well I have learned my lesson. I can get this waived through Brigham or Beth Israel but I don't have the time.
Take care and be safe in that awesome new car of yours.
Rick.

I sit here humbled eating those words now, laughing at myself seeing how I was so certain. I won't say too much on why I was so sure, but I have a connection to some info regarding MA troopers. I'll be inquiring with my sources about this type of incident now. If you were staying in MA I would take the time to have it waived so you would avoid surcharges which are ridiculously expensive in MA. But since you're leaving you probably aren't to concerned. Although if you don't have a car registered the ticket will sit dormant on your record until you have a car here again waiting for you. That I know for a fact. My insurance agent owns her company and we're close. So you may want to get it waived anyhow. The trooper was looking out for your patient I suppose, not holding you up. What happen to compassion and understanding nowadays. Technically you don't have a license to speed as a Dr. but come on you weren't going 150mph. If this was 1970 he would have given you a police escort. And thanks on the 370. I also had a 350 for 2 yrs which was awesome, and they have really stepped it up a notch in every way. I am trying to be safe and sane, but it's not easy. Steve

I know this has already been answered but I have noticed in MA that staties usually let you off with a warning and locals are the ones that give out tickets. This may not be true for everyone. Just speaking for personal experience. I got pulled over on Rt 2 going 95 in a 45 : / Statie using lidar my Passport 8500 didn't go off and he was right over a hill. I saw him right away but at that point I was going 110 and slammed on my breaks and down shifted. He just played 20 questions with me and somehow let me go. This happened to be my last day of high school, day after my birthday, and 10 minutes after winning $100 on my very first lottery ticket since I just turned 18. So lucky too cause if I was under the JOL, I wouldn't have my license for 90 days!

WOW!! That Trooper sounds like a pr@ck! There are plenty of cars driving nutso all over that highway and he has to slam it to a doctor thru the back door?? WOW!

Reading thru the thread i thought you would be OK, that was a surprising ending. I had a similar experience as a dumb 18 yr old. Speeding in my Z28 coming home from Air National Guard in uniform. I asked for leniency and he told me "ask for a trial Robert". I thought maybe he wouldn't show. I talked to a friend on the job and she found out it was just a stunt to get me to go to court and pay the fine and courts costs. Lucky for me the friend got the ticket removed from the docket. Very lucky there.

Ironically, that is the last speeding ticket I have received. I have been stopped at least 6 times and have only received a warning. Back in 2005, a MSP Trooper stopped me for "excessive window tint". He placed a meter on the glass and said I was OK. He apologized for the mistake and sent me on my way.

All you can do is be respectful and hope for the best!

MA troopers will def' write you up the ticket right then and there. They will always give you your option of paying it or appealing it. The only time you'd get a ticket mailed to you is when they capture your plates without stopping you: They'd put down the speed or the infraction itself and the amount. Hopefully this will hold true for this time.
