Have fun F-C. Monza is unbelievable. What town you staying in again? Take a sidetrip to L. Como and catch some towns on the "speedy boat" as that is a lot of fun.

We're going to stay in the center of Milan, very close to the Duomo. Might still do Como though.
I can't wait, first trip to Italy and my first attendance at an F1 race.

Exchange rate is a killer. I just figured that the race tickets will cost me $5/minute for the GP. I'd better not need to go to the restroom during the race.

F-C a word to the wise . . . . there is a very limited chance you will get food quickly as there are like no food stands there. Bulk up before you go or take snacks. If you want spectacular food one night, go to Savini's in the Galleria right next to the Duomo. Unbelievable, one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. The tour of La Scala was kind of interesting too while the walk around the top of the Duomo is really fun to do. I'm envious but have a great time.

I'm going to sneak into Paddock Club.

Thanks, I'll remember to eat a big brunch prior to the race.

Is Savini $$$ or $$$$ or $$$$$?

Well, that €€€€€ that you remembered is probably now $$$$$$$$ because of the exchange rate. I might have to survive on a diet of road side pannini. I'll definitely check it out though.

another great place to go is Villa d'Este's dining room up in Cernobbio. Unbelievable views and you can take a train to Como then a taxi to Cernobbio (less than 5 mins from station)

Awesome, you're going to your first race. I'll be in Italy too but won't get a chance to see the race Will have it on my DVR for when I return.

Chance of rain:

60% on Saturday
20% on Sunday I don't want to get wet. Although I'm sure that everyone else here, except the Ferrari tifosi, want rain.

Qualifying Results

Kimi pips Schumi to the top spot. I'm surprised to see Heidfeld in the top 3.
Alonso back in P5, with Massa ahead of him, should be interesting tomorrow

Well, I'm safely back to the big apple. Race was great, except the Ferrari winning part. At least the Hondas had a decent showing. The Italian tifosi really went wild when Alonso's engine failed. The best part of the Grand Prix was when the race ended. The track was opened up to the public and I walked half way around the race track to get back to the train station. I ended up walking from Variante Ascari all the way to Lesmo. The free train going to Milan was at the Lesmo station, just a few steps from the Lesmo corner.

I'll post a few pictures later. I ended up taking more than 2000 photos on the trip. (My new Sony digital photo HDD really came in handy.)

Milan was great. Paris...been there, but my wife loved it. Bavaria was also great, loved the castles and churches. Too bad the exchange rate is so bad, otherwise I would have bought more goodies.

I remember being able to hear the crowd noise over the engines when Ferraris went onto the track. Incredible.

I don't know if it's even possible but did either of you guys get a chance to check out the old oval banking when you were there? It's always looked completely insane in the pictures and movies I've seen.

yeah, it's like straight up and down. You can't walk up it that's for sure but you could get to it on the infield.

I took a few pictures of the banking. I might post a few later. It's scary to think people actually drove on that thing, it makes the banking at Texas or Michigan look like child's play. The banking is really deteriorating though, severe cracking on the track surface.
