McLaren and Williams to work on tire development together

Well, it's about time.
Remember how good the Bridgestone intermediates looked compared to the Michelins at Silverstone?
How many times have you seen the teams running Michelins come in for a tire change and with the tires being all blistered as hell and no grooves left?
I read in one of the F1 mags somewhere that one of the benefits Ferrari has been able to get out of their close alliance with Bridgestone is that they can get very good grip from the Bridgestone tire without requiring such an aggressive suspension set up that would otherwise put additional wear on the tire.
Here's hoping a more competetive and durable Michelin tire for 2003 comes about as a result.

Bridgestone is a Ferrari-engineered tire first and foremost. The worst thing for the competition was when McLaren jumped ship to Michelin. The Michelin full wets (a la Silverstone) were of course no match for Bridgestone's intermediates. That is why Ferrari (and even BAR) managed to run away from the Michelin shod cars. The only thing McLaren and Williams can do is cooperate to get the most out of their tires. Since the chamionship's gone and all that's left is a race for 2nd, they are probably trying to ensure Barrichello does not get it, rather, DC or Ralf, or JPM instead.
