Jv!!!

Here it is boyz, JV tests for Renault as we speak:

VILLENEUVE HITS THE TRACK
Last Updated: Wednesday, 15, September, 2004, 11:43

Jacques Villeneuve got behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car for the first time since last year’s United States GP when he rolled out of the Silverstone pit lane in a Renault on Wednesday morning.

The French-Canadian completed one installation lap shortly before 10 a.m. and two laps at speed 15 minutes thereafter.

Things didn’t go entirely according to plan as Villeneuve experienced minor problems getting comfortable in the car. The team are reported to be carrying out adjustments to his seating position before he ventures out for a proper run.

The former world champion is taking part in a two-day trial run for the French team, who are assessing their options now that they have confirmed their split with Jarno Trulli. If he impresses, Villeneuve will race for Renault in the final three races of the season at Shanghai, Suzuka and Interlagos.

Renault would appear to be in a win/win situation, since the test gives them an opportunity both to evaluate Villeneuve and to measure their highly-rated lead driver Fernando Alonso against an established yardstick – albeit one who now has plenty to prove.

Above all, a fully-motivated Villeneuve will potentially boost their chances of regaining second place in the constructors’ championship from arch-rivals BAR, which they relinquished at Monza last weekend.

Villeneuve, meanwhile, is effectively using his appearances with Renault as an audition for a race seat next year.

Recent reports have linked him to the Sauber berth vacated by the Renault-bound Giancarlo Fisichella. But it is likely he will have to see off young Italian hotshot Vitantonio Liuzzi, who has Red Bull connections and will test for the Swiss team at Jerez this Thursday.

We'll bring you more news of Villeneuve’s progress as the

Be interesting to see if he gets a ride out of this . . .

busy day on the JV front:

Jacques Villeneuve signs with Sauber
A special day for Peter Sauber

Jacques Villeneue will be back in F1 in 2005

Sauber Petronas has signed Jacques Villeneuve as a new driver from the 2005 season onwards. The 33-year-old Canadian entered into a two- year contract, which will come into effect on November 1, 2004. Jacques Villeneuve will be the team-mate of Felipe Massa who will continue to drive for Sauber Petronas next year.

Expressing his enthusiasm about signing Jacques Villeneuve, Team Principal Peter Sauber expressed himself delighted.

"I have to admit that signing a former World Champion is something truly special for me," said Sauber. "However, I want to make it clear that this was not the decisive factor. When I was talking to Jacques, I could feel that he is absolutely keen and committed to return to Formula One. He was always a great fighter and I am convinced that together we can achieve a lot. I fully realise that signing a former World Champion is also an obligation for the team to provide him with a car that meets his expectations. Sauber Petronas has made considerable progress this year, and I am confident that we are ready to tackle this challenge."

Jacques Villeneuve, testing today with Renault at Silverstone, is also optimistic.

"I am extremely excited to be back in Formula One with the Sauber Petronas Team, and I appreciate the confidence everybody is showing in me," Villeneuve said. "It is my goal to work with Peter and his team to bring them forward in the championship during the next two seasons. In my recent visit to Sauber, I have been extremely impressed by the professionalism which is apparent throughout the factory. I am looking forward to seeing the results that will be developed by the state-of-the-art wind tunnel."

Jacques Villeneuve entered Formula One in 1996 and won a total of eleven races. He was World Champion in 1997.

The news means that F3000 Champion Tonio Liuzzi will not race with the team in 2005, but has been linked to a test role with the squad.

I think this is almost as stupid as his signing for BAR-no chance of winning w/ a 3 tier team must really blow.

Hey Red,
What is your fascination with JV? This guy is an arrogant prick! His attitude burned a lot of bridges in F1. He won't ever enjoy the prominence that he once did.

That'd be MY fascination TypeS-he's the only driver who speaks his mind, all the rest are corporate robots ("I wish to thank my sponsors, the team did a fantastic job today, the tires were perfect for the conditions. . . blah, blah, blah). I met JV at the Long Beach GP a decade ago and he was really really decent to talk to, which I did for about 10-15 minutes uninterrupted. I guess that image still lives on for me.

I really don't have a fascination with him. He is an ex world champ who still wants to drive, i find that interesting. I agree that he'll not find that prominence again, certainly not at Sauber !!
