Dinner with Hurley Haywood
So, last night in Watkins Glen, 4 of us had dinner with Hurley Haywood and we chatted about a number of topics. He can't wait to drive the Taycan and knew an awful lot about it, that drive coming in two weeks' time. Haywood thinks Tesla missed the mark on its recharging system saying he didn't agree with their brand specific charging cables instead of making something useable by all EV cars. He said "Liberty Group are in over their heads on F1" and that "Chase Carey is ignorant aloof when it comes to what is feasible for the survival of the sport." He said he tried talking to him once and said Carey is not really a very pleasant man, unlike Ross Brawn who is and knows what he's talking about. I always ask drivers what their favorite car was ever to drive and he thought for a split second and said "The Porsche 936 was unbelievable." That of course is the successor to the 917 which he raced in LeMans and was wearing a Porsche team jacket with Martini Rossi sponsorship on it like his 936. I was surprised to hear he enjoyed open-cockpit race cars more than closed given how many times I've seen him in 911 variants racing.
He kidded me about the snow in Buffalo when my friend chimed in and said "are you kidding? He loves the snow!" Being a resident of St. Augustine, he couldn't relate. I really enjoyed talking with him, especially his insight in to running a 24 hour race which he has won a number of times (LeMans and Daytona). Great dinner!

^ cool Chief, interesting observations about the Tesla, whom I think are going the Apple way with their proprietary cables.
Also the Liberty/Chase observations, at least they have Ross Brawn to guide them along.
Surprised he didn't say his favorite car wasn't the 956
