Formula One: Austin GP responds positively to U.S. Grand Prix date change
Published on 8/10/2011
Organizers of the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, have responded positively to Wednesday's news that Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone plans to move the U.S. GP to Nov. 18, 2012, rather than holding the race in June next year as originally planned.
"I have been hoping for a late-season race date since this project began and see this as a very positive sign from Formula One that it wants its U.S. event to be an over-the-top success," said Tavo Hellmund, chairman of the U.S. Grand Prix. "Mr. Ecclestone has dozens of competing issues to consider when it comes to the race calendar. He has to balance the interests of the teams with those of the promoters, and even consider the unique situation of each host country.
"To put our race near the end of the schedule puts us in a prime spot to welcome the world next year, and I could not be more personally and professionally appreciative."
The revised 2012 F1 calendar contains numerous changes compared with the schedule the FIA issued in June but remains unofficial until the FIA World Motor Sport Council ratifies it at a meeting later this year.
Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell, in a prepared statement, also praised the new race date and Formula One Management for respecting the area's air quality at different times during the year, and also said that the proposed date gives organizers the opportunity to optimize the Circuit of the Americas' construction, staffing and scheduling

Starting at $159, 3-days General Admission.
Paving has begun:
Construction at Circuit of The Americas moves closer to completion as the placement of asphalt continues around the track and the first layer of surface from Turns 1 – 5 and Turns 18 – 20 is applied. The Access Tunnel that leads to the Paddock Area is finished and paved. The Medical Center is almost finished with only work on the ceiling and windows to go.
Meanwhile, progress at the Pit Building is well under way; window installation and painting has started and should be completed soon.
In the coming weeks, paving will continue between Turns 5 and 10 while the Main Grandstand is completed.
Stay tuned for more construction updates from the COTA team.

I visit a couple friends in Austin every couple years and over the last year ticket prices are unreal. Don't know why, but travelling to Austin and FL has gotten really pricey lately.

I assume you've checked flights for the 'usual suspects' .... DFW, Love Field (via Southwest), Houston, San Antonio, etc.?

actually just re-checked SW and a r/t would be about $500. Not god awful but we are going back to Siesta Key in October instead.

I'm seeing ~$350-ish from here to any/all those locations. Which from here is pretty good pricing; usually anything under $500 is a good deal. Cost me $940 to go to Dallas a few weeks ago (but that was about a weeks notice).

yupp, the red ribbon even for the track happened over the weekend i think. I saw some pics, i'll post it up later. People gotta do laps around the track
#96
I spent the day at the track yesterday for the first lap ceremony. The important news up front: this track is excellent! I can't wait for private track days. I was in a Lotus Evora S program car and had a blast! Met Mario Andretti (he's surprisingly small in person), Patrick Dempsey, and Ryan Gosling. The facilities are pretty nice so far, but parking is going to be a nightmare! I'm glad I've got wings in and out and don't have to worry about parking. I'll upload pictures and video later this evening.

I'm not sure if any of you called the OMNI hotel the broadcasters mentioned during the weekend, but I called. $670 a night 3 night minimum.
We got our 4 tix in the mail too, I'm getting pretty excited!

Question for you F1 veterans: do they allow you to bring a camcorder?
thanks

Haha that's too funny!
Well I grew up 60miles east of Montreal so I sorts know the area![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I'm thinking of just bringing the camera, if they complain I'll bring it back to the car.
The only problem is that my battery won't make it a whole day. Oh well...
Btw any advice you have (what to bring and so on) would be great. I have been to over races like petit lemans or Tampa Grand Prix, but access wasn't as restricted and crazy as an F1 race.

Camcorders are usually never allowed at sporting events, but I 've never seen it enforced.

How do they know? It's not like a camcorder is some discreet device anymore .... every phone and/or digital camera is also a 'camcorder'.

Ya, I thought the same thing, I can just record with my mobile phone. What I was hoping to use though is my Canon camcorder which doesn't look like a pocket watch, sunglasses or pencil, it's pretty obvious its a camcorder
