Acura has SO SO start to showroom stock racing season at Sebring

Realtime racing is the main combatant for Acura/Honda in the Speed channel cup. Realtime races an RSX and an Integra R in touring class and a supercharged NSX in Grand sports class.

The following are the results from this past weekend’s opener at Sebring International raceway.

RSX finished 2nd.
Intergra R finished 8th
Supercharged NSX did not start!!!

Piere Kleinubing started the RSX in 6th and raced to 2nd. The RSX handled well in the corners, but did not have the top speed that the winning BMW 3 series did. Top speed is king on a track like Sebring. The RSX had better race lap times than the BMW did, but Piere waited too late to make his move for the lead. Either that, or the BMW was sandbagging. Lets face it the Integra R’s days are over. Even Peter Cunningham could only move up a few spots. Over all great race though.

Peter Cunningham was also supposed to race the supercharged NSX in Grand Sports, but it did not make the grid. Unfortunately, rain prevented me from getting into the pits to ask “WHY?” This is too bad because it left Acura/Honda without an entry in the Grand Sports. All props to the Z06 corvette. It won the grand sports class in dominant fashion. The only competition the Vette had was a Saleen Mustang that blew up while trying to take the lead on the 4th lap. In its wake the Vette left several 911 RSR’s, Audi S6’s, and BMW M3’s.

If you watch the eventual broadcast on Speed Channel look at the rear wing on the RSX. It looks so odd. The wing element follows the same angle as the back window. Compared to all the other cars it looks like it would produce lift instead of down force. I'm sure wind tunnel data caused them to make a wing like that, but in person it looks broke!

If you look back to the days when the Integra type-R's first started to race, it took them half a season to get everything sorted out. So 2nd place in the first race for the RSX-S is a very good start.

Man, I wonder what happened with the NSX
The NSX better show up next race.

At any rate, I'm suprised those Audi's werent competition for the Z06. I think Randy Pobst who used to drive that 3R Racing 911 went over to the Audi team to team up with Michael Golatti (sp?) Randy can drive his ass off.

I hate that I opened this thread, I always like watching the delayed races without knowing the winners. But, in the back of my head, I knew what I was getting myself into though.

Just in case anyone is interested, I found a copy of David Farmer's video from inside his car during the race at Sebring. Its in real player format(icky), but it beats waiting until March 29th!

i know this is an old thread, I went to the realtime website and the Nsx was not one of the cars they had on the list for this season. The official website for the races has Peter Cunningham resistered as a driver for the season but like everyone who saw the races know the nsx was not there. I also emailed realtime asking if the nsx was going to race or not, I am waiting for the reply. One other bad thing, the track in DC was not on the list of scheduled races, I wont get to see one in person......
