Will airline companies ever make money

$5 billion in losses this year.

They havent had profit for a long time now. What a bad investment, eventhough they are necessary.

Just think about where the money comes from to cover those losses.

Southwest airlines does
then again they herd you in like cattle

Airlines should be government funded or assisted. Its a form of public transportation IMO.

There is no way an airline can make enough money to cover all their expenses while still having reasonable prices.

think if these people didn't travel...less revenue from tourism going to other cities...possibly less work being done because meetings can't be arraged (of course that is thinking way outside of the box, but you see what i'm getting at)

we call them Cattle Car Airlines. Cheap and quick though. For short flights it is well worth it.

The only problem with them is if they do not have enough passengers booked on the flight, the plane mysteriously develops some kind of mechanical failure. Funny how that always happens when they wouldn't have enough passengers to make it into the black.

Here is a a so-so tip... AirCanada is expected to make a profit for the first time in 2005. They have already released preferred shares which shows they might just be on the right track. If they are able to earn a profit this will be the first time in years.

That was my first thought upon reading the thread title. JetBlue's model the one everyone is trying to copy now since they have become the best rated airline in the business for the last few years. I highly recommend it for people who have not had a chance to fly with them. Heck, it can't hurt since they offer DirecTV inflight.

the reason people like them is basically because they offer fine leg room and direct tv, and its cheap as hell. because of the price, people have lower expectations (they understand no food), and it allows them to keep their costs low

btw if you haven't had a chance to watch direct tv on a flight, its really nice

I use to work for United...

United is going under, I can see it...

Their management sucks, their implementation sucks, they are wasting too much money on stuff that doesn't work. They can't get out of bankrupcy for the life of them. They are screwed... the gov't didn't want to help them cause the CEO is a cocky bastard. United's days are numbered
