Want to begin to Invest...

but I dont know where to start... Should I consider doing it myself? Get a broker? Where & how do I start? What do I look for in stocks, brokers, etc?

What kinda money are you looking for your initial investment?
What is the money planned to be used for (house, car, retirement)?
What's your risk tolerance? What's your level of risk/reward?
Are you planning to continue to invest?
Do you already have a retirement account at work? Does it match you investment?

1. My investment is substantial. Like 5 digits.
2. Eventually, I would use it in a house, but its not an immediate plan.
3. Risk Tolerance: Medium. I plan to place some of this money in a high interest savings account, so what goes into the market can have some risk.
4. My agency has TWO retirement plans. Both match up to 5 percent each and I'm already maxed out on both. I become fully vested in another two years.
