I love the look of this card. It's the clear one with the blue halogram in the middle. I was talking with some friends and they told me it's next to impossible to get. I just applied for one and got it within weeks. Just wondering who else has heard this or has this card.

I can count at least three good friends that have tried and been rejected. These guys are working...one for a bank and owns a house and a car, the other as a waitor but owns a house and a car, the third rents in the city.

just seeing if anyone else had the same problem.

Yeah I'm waiting for my Black card invitation. I have the Platinum and put a shitload on it each year. I want the status symbol.

I get points instead of cash on the Blue Card. Pretty soon I'll have enough to take a nice trip to Hawaii.

I got it but have decided to use the Chase Perfect card instead. Chase is 1% on ALL purchases.

With amex blue, for most purchases, you only get .25% on the balance from 0-$2K,
.5% from 2-6K, and 1.5% from 6K-50K. So unless you spend > 13K/year, you get more cash back for your money with the chase card.

Don't believe the 5% back, that's only special circumstances.

Not to mention, the chase money you get back immediately, and the amex card you only get after 1 year.

yeah, but is the status symbol worth the G plus in anual fees????
I just declined the Platinum, they called me up and said they would like to switch, and I sadi no thanks. Called a week later saying, "you sure you don't want to switch?" Those cards only really make sense if you travel ALL the time. The gold card works fine for me!

Only an exclusive credit card like an invitation-only card has any kind of status. If you think any other credit card denotes status, as soon as you find out someone else has one who maybe shouldn't, you'll realize. In the end, you're making a purchase all the same. There's no glory in impressing a waitress, merchant, or clerk...or even your restuarant guests.

How much must you charge for the Platinum? I have a Gold amex too and charge alot of my company expenses on it, I will probably be at 50K for the year.

In the Wall Street Journal about a month ago they had an article on the black card, and its new competition the white card, which I believe is put out by US Bank, although I can't remember.

The cool part about the white card is you can build up enough points to have hours on a private jet to use. I don't think the black card offers private jet trips.

Good question! I have absolutley no idea! I also charge a lot of company expenses to my card-gotta love the free points! I think it also has to do with how long you have been with Amex, your credit score, and your payment history. I was surprised that they called me-I wasn't even 21 at the time!!!

i had the blue and cancelled it, so did most of my friends. There are many cards out there that gives u 1% back on every purchase instead of the .25% .5%, etc etc that blue give u.
