Good time to buy s&p 500 index?
I was thinking that if the S&P 500 drops below 900 again, it will be a good opportunity to buy an index fund. I was thinking either ishares S&P 500 index ETF (Ticker: IVV) or the Vanguard 500 mutual fund (Ticker: VFINX). I would probably lean towards the ishares because it has a lower expense ratio (0.09 vs 0.15).

It's probably a good time to get in but there is a lot of beat up stock out there. With a little bit of research you could get much better returns in stock of good companies compared to the index.
Don't drop in all your cash at once, spread it out over multiple quarters in case the downturn is not over.
I buy VFINX every couple weeks in my 401k.
