filing taxes

hey everyone,
i started working at my full time job in November 2006 and i lost my W2 form. i know the tax deadline is coming up real soon and i lost all track of time. am i supposed to file my taxes for this year if i started working in nov 06 or do i wait until next year. i know i receive my w2 but i misplaced it and was wondering where i can get another copy to give to my accountant to file before the tax deadline.

Yes you will need to file taxes. Talk with your HR or Finance department - one of them should be able to get you another copy.

You only need to file if you earned over $3350 in those 2 months

Edit: I mean the whole year.. I just assumed you only had income in those 2 months

Did you earn over that amount in 2006? If so then, yes, you need to file.

If someone claimed him as a dependent, wouldn't he still need to file even if under the $3k?

If you are claimed as a Dependent you do not have to file unless you earn more than the personal deduction.. $3350

why is everyone telling him not to file?

i am sure they took taxes out of his paycheck...he should get all that money back if he made less than the standard deduction.

I'm sure your taxes are pretty basic, 1040EZ will take you, what, 15 mins tops? E-file or mail that shit in for free. Get money back.

BTW if you are now working full time you better make sure your parents aren't claiming you as a dependent this year. Otherwise Uncle Sam will own you on the return you do next year.

I was saying he legally did not have to file. He asked if he was supposed to file this year, and the answer to that is no. If he wants to file to get some money back then he obviously has to this year.

i was working full time but i quit last month and am still getting paid until the end of april. i know that i will get less money if my parents claim me as a dependent but i do technically live in their house so i will continue to let them claim me. because they will get screwed if they take me off as a dependent and i wouldnt want that.

I'm a CPA... It sounds like you don't owe any taxes to Uncle Sam. I'd file and get back every penny you paid in taxes -_-

If you need help PM me. I'll do it for free. It should take me 3 minutes
