It will probably not be a pretty 10 years for the real estate issues and government debt issues too. States like CA (8th greatest economy in world?) are having problems paying bills and the US government is not too far behind. I'm afraid cash and hard commodities will be the hedge for this environment. There was a book published in the early 90's called 'Bankruptcy 1995'. While late in its year projection (bond rates dropped more than projected), many of the viewpoints appear to be coming true now 14 years later. The first chapter in that book was a doozy that I still remember: mass job losses, banks calling in loans, etc.
