There should be at least 2 more meets. Typically there is the FALL skyline drive meet. We should also do a meet at a local park or somthing. Very similar to the one in Va Beach last year.
Im researching some local NOVA parks now.

Ok Guys,
It time to stop talking about it and be about it.
I've been on the phone with The National Park Service @ Skyline Drive and this is what we have:
Special Use Permit: Since the number of cars in the group is a direct impact on park operations we need to apply for Special Use Permit. Having the Permit allows the following:
An area that will be for the use of AZ members for the day. The park will route other visitors to different areas. Faster entrance to the park. Once we set a date we can arrange to have our cruise just waived in at the entrance (Of course some one will have to collect the entrance fess in advance).
The Permit is 200 per event, but since this is becoming a tradition twice a year the park is willing to allow us to pay 200 a year for up to 3 events.
I'm willing to apply for the permit that would cover this September and next Junes meet, but they will use the September meet as an evaluation before they would extend for next September. If they find EXCESSIVE speeders down the mountain, they will require that we RENT a park ranger to escort us back down the next time. Although she didnt say anything about RACING up the mountain . If we as a group decide to make this offical and get the permit donations would be appreciated plus im still looking to to get 40 sets of a certain *cough cough* side window stickers made up for the next meet.
Cooking: I explained that in September we would like to cook out. With the Permit we could get Pinnacles Overlook( This is the only overlook that is covered and has pits to grill at.) all we need to supply is food and match-light and we are good to go. Now since i love Grilling like a fat kid loves cake I will start to coordinate with everyone how we want to do the food, should it be BYOS. I'm down for working a grill! We could have each leg get together and purchase food in bulk (Costco) and then we have a big pot luck type outing.
Location:
We entered Skyline at the Thornton Gap Entrance off of route 211, we then proceed north to Elkwallow overlook (with the 4.60 gas). The Pinnacles Overlook is where we want to be (according to the park) and that is to the south of the entrance.
Let me know what you think.
-Shawn.
So we need to do the following
1st Set a date.
2nd. Establish Leg Captians
3rd. Food and Drinks etc etc
It time to stop talking about it and be about it.

All,
I hope I didn’t explain that wrong. The Permit DOES NOT cover the entrance fee. I asked, even asked about a discount based on volume . The park makes most of it's money on the entrance fee.
Regarding the expedited entrance into the park we need something to let the gate person/people that we are apart of a group and they will waive us through at the gate ( Provided we have the admission paid prior) so what I'm working on is this:
When i go to the print shop, (depending on the cost) i was thinking of having a Flyer made up (like the ones you get at the club, under your wiper) with something like "AcuraZine Skyline Meet Sep 2008 on the front, and a map of the exact overlook location on the back" but this requires a few things to happen:
1. Every car pays 15 bucks at the final leg, gets a flyer to put in the front window.
2. Once all the cars have a window flyer We have to entrust someone to go ahead to Skyline give a final count and the cash, then when the people with the flyers in the front window arrive, its no lag we just cruse on through.
3. Someone who can design a nice flyer to take to the print shop.
Even though having a permit for an event will get an area it is no guarantee, they will mark of the area off but if people come its not like they will have an armed guard there till we arrive so i might bow out of the run and go up to skyline early to make sure the area we want is free an clear and that way we can lock up the grills.
If we decide on the flyer idea ( again, i will confirm once i get a cost) then i will need someone close to the dulles area to meet with me a few days before the meet to pick'em up, since it looks like if we move ahead with the group permit someone will need to be at the park early.

Dammit... if the permit doesn't cover the entrance fee then it's not worth it IMO.
Plus gathering people's money before a meet is going to be a nightmare. This is considering people don't know if they can make it or bail out on the day of the meet. Sorry for being pessimistic but this is just from my experience with organizing events that involve other people paying me.

I hear you. I really dont mind paying for the permit or even the flyers but i wont be responsible for anyones money.
I think the permit has it's advantages, but worst comes to worst i'll drive up in the morning and try to place cones and put the area on lock gangsta style. I have like 4 empty coolers and i can just set'em up around the tables marked with reserved.
