People bake head lights to open them up to modify them.

the base TL's doesnt come with a blacked out housing, and also the orange reflector is an eye sore.
some paint the housing black while removing the orange reflector to give the head light a more custom and cleaner look.

while the head light is open, you can also install a better projector lens, to produce a beautiful sharp cutoff line.

your creativity is the limit for headlights. you can do almost anything to them

My favorite is to remove the bulbs entirely.

Since all you are doing is decreasing your own visibility and increasing glare for others when you try to retrofit a "better" projector, you might as well just remove the lights entirely. Then, you can be cool like the leader of this pack

CEB! lol watch what section you are in.

there are better projector lenses than the OEM lens for the 3G TL.
While I respect your opinion on OEM items, you can get a sharper cutoff with a better lens.

Stock Fresnel lens

ZKW Clear lens

as you can clearly see(unless your eyesight is going, ceb) the clear ZKW lens provides a sharper cut off.
those were at 500ft.

here is 35ft.
Stock Fresnel Lens

ZKW Clear Lens

So, you see CEB, this isnt anything like what you are thinking of.

What makes them so popular? It's about as good as it gets for a projector with low and high beam capabilities, period.
Installation Summary: Park car, mark stock beam-height on wall, disassemble headlight, cut original reflector to fit projector in place, re-mount modified headlights without lens cover, illuminate projector, then tack it into place using the reference height/level using epoxy gum. Voila!
Performance highlights: Few other designs can match the width, uniformity, and intensity produced by the TL's to begin with, but their full potential is really unleashed when the included 3" ZKW-R clear lenses are installed - with virtually no loss of intensity from side to side and more light throughout, the clear lenses take an already good projector and make it even better.
The projectors are not brand new, but unlike the one's you'll buy on eBay for a few bucks less - TRS guarantees you'll get a matching pair with all the clips, wires, etc, and without any performance-affecting damage inside the reflector bowls (very common for Acura projectors, beware!)

I see your quote and I'll raise you with this

Based on the laws of the US (and Canada), any headlight retrofits violate the laws and - depending on which state you are in - can make you fail inspection. The "ugly" sidemarkers are required by law and more and more jurisdictions are cracking down on violations - easy money and an easy way to have cause to stop a car.

In this case a sharp cutoff is not good - it affects your night vision and effectively leaves everything outside the reach of the headlights in complete darkness, making things "jump out at you."

Quite simply, none of the people selling these things understand how light works and how the brain processes light.
