Adding Turbo
Adding Turbo
Hi Everyone,
I'm a newbie with a my new love a 2012 MDX w/Tech package. I'm a speed junkie. looking for advice on adding turbo. Would need an experienced shop to install.
Want to get to 0-60 in 4.2 like my SRT 10.
Thanks,
Geo

Geo, there are currently NO kits available for the MDX.
However, I'm sure you could spend lots of money to go to a shop for them to fab up a kit.
but then there is the problem of tuning.
currently, there are a few viable tuning soultions for the J-series.
SO, you have about 2 VERY LARGE problems.
tuning.
and
actually building a CUSTOM turbo set up.
Hope you have deep pockets.
HOWEVER.
there is a shop in Florida, called J&R tuning
that has a turbo kit out for the 3.2 J-series motor.
J&R also has come up with a solution for tuning.
With some time and your vehicle, I'm sure Rodney can adapt the 3.2 kit to fit your 3.7 motor.(or is it the 3.5? i forgot)
he sells the kit to us for about 8 grand.
BUTT, since he'll need to fabricate the kit to fit your car, it'll be more.

It would be great to see a customized turbo set up on the MDX. However, I will speculate, but the time you tally up the cost of this project (car included), you can probably get a low milage current gen Cayenne Turbo.
Dont boost the 3.7L. The cylinders were bored out to their service limit in order to get the extra .1L out of it. That is, unless you want to resleeve the block - which will run you around $1200.
Then theres the driveline that you have to worry about. We dont know if it can handle the 400+hp/tq that mild boost levels will give. Thats not even taking into account the lack of tuning. I wouldnt run the J&R kit either. Zip ties should not be used to secure oil lines on an $8k kit
And its no fun going fast in a truck.
