105K Service Balt/DC Metro Area - reasonable price?
I am looking to get my 105K service done on my 04TL. I am planning to get the complete service, timing belt, serpentine belt, plugs, tensioner, water pump, etc.
I have tried local Honda and Acura dealers, they want between $1300 - $1400 for the complete service.
Anyone have any suggestions in the Balt/Wash DC area that is cheaper and had good success?
This designed in service by Honda (at this price point) really has me ticked off. Will be the last Honda product I buy and I will be more conscious of this going forward.
No car I have owned prior to this has been this expensive for this maintenance.
TIA.

Sorry for the delayed response, but I have been out of the country for the past two days. I appreciate the suggestions and I will check them out.
Actually, I am quite conscientious about my service on all of my cars. My Ford Taurus did not need any type of timing belt replacement on the DOHC V6 (my mother-in-law is still driving it at >300K), my wife's Nissan Altima used a timing chain (my nephew is still driving at 270K).
This is really the first foreign car that I have purchased. My wife had the Altima before we got married.
My main point is that the stealer is really ripping people off. I get a little nervous about going to a "local" garage on such a major item. It is one thing to have a timing belt replacement, which is designed in maintenance, but it is something else, when it costs almost $1K AND to charge $225 for spark plugs on top of that is just absurd. Especially when you can get identical parts on the web for $15 each.
I keep thinking on whether to just get rid of it (my wife hates the 6-sp), but I don't want another car payment and I really don't drive that much any more, since I work out of my house.

all cars with rubber timing belts require replacement between 50 and 100,000 miles
acura gives you an extra 5 plus some margin- time being worse than miles
Rubber belt is much quieter than a timing chain- which can also stretch or have its tensioner fail same as the belts will
shops will lowball you to get the car in- not quote timing belt pulley or tensioner then call you with 500 in extra repairs
Please read the other 105 threads for more info on what exactly to have done
While its not a job for a tire store or gas station, look in the phone book for a small ad with honda-acura in the list of specialties
Make sure they have done a few TL jobs--should run 800+
Spark plugs 15 dollars online!!!!- you are not looking in the right place~
I can walk into oreillys/kragens and pay 8 bucks each for them NGK Iridium- same as stock
Acura has a high profit center in the parts and service dept= thats what really supports the dealership
If you decide to sell your car needing the 105- expect ~1000 dollars less than low book in offers..but 6mt are an east sell in general
the tbelt water pump is the ONLY major service the car gets, everything else is inspect and change some fluids,, and replace tbelt and wpump in another 100, car will easily go past that and be in great shape mechanically

Sure, chains can stretch, but the reality is that they are much more durable than these belts.
I have to put about $3K - $4K in this car (105K service, new Michelin A/S Sport, new rims as the OEM are scratched thanks to my wife and a few misc interior pieces are badly worn), but it is cheaper than buying a new one.
Since I am in sales, I need to keep it looking nice as my company provides a montly car allowance. At 100K it is beginning a look a bit worn (which you would expect). Thank goodness I don't have the cracked dash issue - yet.

Funny you mention that. I was thinking about a BMW 335D. I will check the maintenance costs (you can a lot done outside the dealer), but it is likely that it does not have a timing belt in the diesel.

This includes coolant, transmission fluid changes, plugs, timing and drive belts, spark plugs, tensioner pully and water pump.

I am running a special right now for all the parts for that 105k service for $295 shipped. That includes OEM tbelt, wpump, hydrolic tensioner, bearing tensioner and serpentine belt. You're on your own for labor but I'm sure that price beat the quotes you are getting for parts.

same here, in Utah, I found my Mechanic of all places on Craigslist, guy owns his own shop, was a tech at Acura and is Master Tech certified, to do the plugs, $60, Timing Belt, Tentioner and Water Pump, $250 ..I just buy my parts online and save a grip and he does the labor for dirt cheap...I know i lucked out with this guy, but better to check around and find someone who is Certified and trying to gain business, will land you savings over the walk in shop or dealer..i just got these quotes today, he did a motor mount for $60, brakes front and rear for $100 labor, rear sway bar $60..look around on Craigslist for shops and maybe get lucky and find a shop that has a good tech, and i would look for certificates of ASE or Master, i lucked out maybe you can too

Very satisfied. They were professional and did a very thorough job. Car is running great.
I just put $3K into it (105K service and tires), so it better be running well. I am sure I will have to put a clutch in some time in the near future, but I expect to get at least another 70K before I pass to my son, without any major repairs.
My wife wanted me to get rid of the car (she hates the 6-sp), so I am hoping that I prove her wrong (she thought it was a waste of $$), with respect to getting the service.
Time will tell.
