Type S burning oil?
#3
burning oil as in you see blue smoke out the muffler? if so, does it happen when first started and then go away? if so then mabey valve retainers. does it blow blue smoke at heavy accel? then rings or gasket. none of the above? check coolant fluid color, if its brown then gasket leak.
no, this is not a known issue.
had an 05 type S at 50k and no burning oil, only bad oil evaporation because i was runing mobile 1 so i switched to royal purple because i like to drive hard and no probs with evaporation.

the mechanic noticed it was burning oil cus he had residue on the exhaust tip and he barely had any oil left, and was less than 4000 km into his oil change. now that i have been doing some research apparently a lot of people have had this issue with their type s and one cause could be the oil, so he is going to try switching to 5w30 synthetic and see what happens. He doesn't really drive it hard either it all city driving.

Hmm, wouldn't say its a common problem.. I've never known anyone or seen anyone with it.
Anyways, Vtec burns a lot of oil. And what kind of oil was he running before?
You should always run 5w-30 synthetic.
