Theft recovery, replace ignition???

car was stolen last night and was recovered a few hours later...

cops called and they said we can come look at the car tomm and tuesday... but the cop did say that they completely destroyed the ignition housing... i'm still trying to figure out how they got past the immobilizer... but more importantly, will i be able to replace the ignition housing and have it reprogrammed and recut to the old key?

car only had liability on it, so any repairs would be out of pocket...

TIA

wow, it sucks having it stolen, but at least it was recoveried though (and hopefully not for the worse either; ie: no accident damage)

for your questions, YES
again YES (dealer will have to do that part though; even then they might be able to just copy your old key chip code, and put it on a new key, so the car will not need to be reprogrammed; independent shops normally can't because of security concerns)(chip's code is stored in the ECU, not the ignition, all that is is a reader , which then transmits the code to the ecu to verify)
and YES again BUT kinda pricey though, and normally easier to just carry two keys though, one for the door (and it can basically just be a home depot copy, so it's thin, because you do not need the chip in the key to open doors) and the other for the ignition

edit: here's a link: http://www.hondapartsunlimited.com/i...&submit=submit

assuming an rsx, because it is in the rsx section, it would be part #2 btw (idk why #1 includes the glove box lock though ), pricey, but can't really do much if it is needed though

forgot to add, the new ignition cylinder includes a new set of keys anyways, so really why rekey it to match the existing set

thanks for that... yea it is on an a RSX-S...

if that is the case then it is probably easier to just carry two keys... could probably get away with just the new key for the ignition since using the keyless entry anyway...

i would still carry the second key though (or at least hide it on the car somewhere), cause what happens if the transmitter, or the vehicle battery dies, you are locked out (and part of the reason why i mentioned a home depot copy for the key, so that it is thin and less noticeable, then one with a chip in it)

also as far as that part number for the ignition, just doable check it for the correct year and such (cause i just put in a year)
