modern cars are designed to reach peak efficiency when you're driving it.
- start car
- put in gear...(reverse or forward)
- drive away, keeping revs below 3000 RPM until temp gauge reaches optimum temp.

the catalytic converters are placed near the engine head to warm up as fast as possible. By the time, I reach the end of my nieghborhood, my car is up to operating temps.

Now, if you want to be comforted in heat when you get in the car, then yes...you can warm up the car by letting it sit...but it's not the most efficient way
