Which Intake?
Which Intake?
Looking to get info on intakes for rsx type s. I have read that the best one so far is the AEM CAI with 20hp boost ( is this right). Yet the AEM v2 claims to be better, but i havnt found any dyno results yet or anything. Let me know what you guys are using as well as what you think between the 2 i mentioned thanks.
20hp boost for just an intake seems a little high even for a 4 cylinder engine. I had an AEM CAI on my 2nd Gen CL. It seemed like it gave me a little bit more horsepower. It was extremely loud at WOT all the way to redline.

AEM V2 is a joke, I saw one cut in half, it's nothing special. Get an ebay intake with a K&N filter and save your money for real engine mods

Actually the best intake for the RSX-S is the Password carbon fiber chamber but you have to relocate the battery so the cost is just under $500 with the intake, battery and relocation kit.

Injen and AEM are both good brands, however I have never seen a proven dyno that proves you get 15 HP to the wheels on any car other than a 400 HP v8. Any cold air intake you're talking a gain of maybe 5 hp
I was looking at the dynos for the PWJDM intake, and I really can't believe the power gains for where the filter is located. The only way that would probably be remotely possible is if they did their dynos with the hood up.
They are both good brands. i know for sure that AEM is 50 state legal, idk bout injen. feel free to fill me on the info tho. my freind has a injen cold air for his 07 civic si, he doesnt have a CARB sticker like the AEM intakes have.
CARB stands for California Air Resources Board. When it comes to automotive equipment (or any equipment for that matter) that may affect emissions, it must have a CARB executive order number before it may be legally used in California. It is possibly the strictest rule in the US as far as smog legality is concerned.

Its not gonna happen with any CAI.
Best for the money is a Injen CAI which at most gives 15WHP.
The V2 is garbage for any K since air just has an extra bend to go thru, it doesn't compensate for being backwards. Injen MRI will be better for 2/3 the cost.

I'm bringing up an old post because I want to dispel the myth that dyno's don't lie. Especially in the case of PWJDM's intake, so everybody can stop sucking off their non-realistic dyno figure's teat. When a dyno is run with the hood up, almost any SRI intake will outperform a CAI on this vehicle. It all comes down to a matter of physics. With a short intake runner, air velocity will be much higher then that of a long runner CAI system. So, with the hood up, not only is that intake gaining access to cool air, but it has a plentiful supply of it in a low pressure area in the engine bay as so there's very little turbulence. That is where the gains on the PWJDM and any SRI intake where it outpowers a CAI. Now, if you were to conduct the same test with the hood down (I've spent so much time @ Church Automotive tuning, renting his dynos that for a short time, I could have sworn I lived there), more similar to the real world, ANY CAI WILL OUTPERFORM ANY SRI OF ANY DESIGN! That's the difference between high velocity intake charge at 150+ degrees Fahrenheit or slower velocity intake charge at 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
To other shop owners, I've been begging other shop owners to do some research on your own and believe in nobody's words but yours. I've spent so much time in my own shop chopping, hacking away, torturing parts so I can honestly say that the PWJDM intake for the RSX and "shown gains" is pure and utter crap (some customers have seen me do similar rants about Tein, so don't think I'm crazy).

Well, with the AEM V2, I could see where they came up with the concept and in theory of physics, it should work, and it does... on the exhaust side of things.... on V8's. However, you know what they say about theories on paper...

Mainly because of the weather where I live and the fact that I don't want to take off the bumper everytime I want to clean the filter or risk hydrolock, I just ordered a v2. The choice is yours.
on this one.. unless your stock filter was ridiculously clogged with leaves, bugs and maybe a frog
