I use the Mother's cone polisher, but nothing is better than Mother's polish and gun cleaning patches. Like using little diapers.
I so love the look of polished aluminum, even tho it takes dedication. I have some Sharkhide coming to test out. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...1313cd47f1.jpg |
I bought some 3M Dual Lock because it claims to hold 10lbs per foot. Stuck 3 2" pieces on to see if it would hold stuff together for fitting.
Seems to work quite well. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...d834357757.jpg Now I can trim the excess I added for safety. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...bfec04cca7.jpg For final attachment I'll be using this. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...7bd7020060.jpg Here's some pics so I /we can see if it's even worth doing. My end product vision has developed a bit and I'm enjoying this. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...753c693c12.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...a49d404153.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...cdc41bbdbc.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...718ce867f3.jpg |
Doing a bit of re-contouring for the lines I want.

Convincing it to shape with heat and tape before permanently sticking it.
Should make it easier, I hope. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...2fb612e768.jpg |
I used 3M 90 adhesive to stick it on. These skirt extensions should help calm crosswinds without making city driving a pain.

Electric City only has a boulevard and a place so I couldn't rock on down to Electric Avenue |
I love that song. And the car looks great too
|
I got revved by a new Camaro. I'm used to older Mustangs doing it. I think I need a paddle board to hold up It's a CIVIC
or maybe just show them this (after running errands in town. it was at 38) https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...908d98de1b.jpg |
"race across country, fewest fuel stops wins!?!?!?"

For those interested, the crossover tucks up inside belly cladding.
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...eeef79f83c.jpg |
Making a cardboard template for underbelly cladding, mostly because it's too hot to do more intense stuff.

After some time turning my Bruce into Caitlyn, I'm back to doing what's important ;)
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...7e005b33a.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...6c91de001.jpeg Yes, that is an LED brake light. |
That LED brake light looks really good, first time I see this done on the ilx I think

All custom. Yeah, I'm an attention whore ;) |
Those feels when you spend a day working on your car and the only time you'll see it is when you're under it.

I'm using Oznium bright white s/s LED bolts for the brake light and 3M lens material. Posting this up for DIYers, besides, it keeps my mind occupied in this most bazar time.
The lens is sticky backed so I put 2 pieces together and sanded the inside with 600 grit to frost it. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...c43700837.jpeg The lens is captured, not glued in. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...c8d55110f.jpeg I used acetone to attach the capture and was a little sloppy. The inside will be getting white reflective tape after it's painted to improve light output. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...f94f0fa11.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...b204fd57c.jpeg The lights are waterproof marine grade so I won't have a problem in my shorts (pun intended). Stay healthy y'all. |
you're too young for problems in your shorts!
good work, man. |

spinal cord injury is no joke. what was affected? I'm assuming you aren't paralyzed? I have a close friend that is a quad from an accident in 2001. |

The good thing is, I stepped back from the world and see things in a whole different light.
Here's some reality, if you have the time, of course https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MY8N...ature=youtu.be |
Wow, man...
I wouldn't have guessed you were old enough to have had something happen in 1972. I'm guessing you do have a "bad motherfucker" wallet then? Just too late for Vietnam, thankfully but thank you for your service. I'll check it out at home...the burning...my buddy has that...it was a drunk driving thing with him...the night I got the call I thought he was dead so I was grateful to watch him come back...he has hands but no fingers and nips down is done as well. He was always the strong silent lady killer...it was odd to see him have to sharpen tools other than muscles...he became a web master and artist and chess player. Love the guy like a brother so I feel a certain kinship to anyone else that suffers any variation of the pain he's been through. Keep on keepin on, man...you're from a generation where laying down and dying wasn't really an option...and for that the world is grateful. |

I probably would have been better off had I not raced a few years in open class veteran off road Grand Prix with my highly twisted RM465 Zuke. Qualified for stadium races several times, but where's the fun in that? Didn't feel like rolling around on the floor today so I did some wires. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...4079935bd.jpeg |
Getting close to paint time, just need to do the finish work on the cross bar removal.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...335f63010.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...2838d62a0.jpeg |
Thought I'd update.
Here's the front side of the belly pan and yes covered complete underside of trunk with floor and tunnel insulation. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...8cdd67780.jpeg Got a box of Noico Red insulation from Amazon to do the inside. Not the quietest, but really light weight. Covered under the back seat, wheel housings, trunk floor to the spare, under side of spare cover, and inner fenders. Added a 3rd brake light flasher when tapping in for lower brake light. More to do but had to take a break, this broken old man stuff, you know? https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...b29edf83c.jpeg |
Woo Hoo, got her all wired up and working now.
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...9b7bf8c05.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...c8722438f2.jpg Can anyone tell me why a guy that makes the most virus friendly software think he has the answer for medical science tracking immunity? |
|
Nice, dude.
|
In case anyone wants to add the 3rd brake light flasher, the wires T off in the driver side C pillar, behind the airbag. It's tight but accessible.
I used sta-kons there rather than the solder+seals. I didn't want to chance heat there. Sorry, no pictures. |
I went for a drive today. It's so sad that the covid has given German car drivers a bobble head, I mean, they can't be checking out my top shelf Civic that hard ;)
|
Finishing the removal of cross bar. Teeth added for strength / adhesion. 40 grit and many holes.
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...9df896bf3.jpeg Using 3M easy sand bumper repair inside and out and packing tape to mold as I go. Not sure if custom or cussed 'em ;) https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...8d7596296.jpeg Didn't even get any in my eye. |
That's what I'm talking about.
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...3693f942b.jpeg The notch is where the last director rib fits in. |
Great progress as always. And it’s funny when people give attention to my top shelf Accord also haha
|
I didn't wash before the pic, but here she is. The way it should have been from factory.
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...025cc25689.jpg |
The velcro worked well for early shaping but changed to aluminum flanged inserts for final fitting and mounting.
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...6124a4912.jpeg I'm using foam weather seal to to create upper mounting flange mold for 3M bumper fast repair https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...6eb9ef51f.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...b2dfbfe8d.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...28c527988.jpeg Fun stuff |
Final fitting. I put packing tape on the lower garnish to prevent bonding until after I paint and using same tape to hold shape. This is the easy sand bumper repair.
