Unsolicited Compliments

Yesterday I was at a gas station, and a gentleman filling up next to me complimented my maroon 2013 ILX 2.4. "That's a beauty!" he said, before asking if I was using "Hi-Test" (which is itself an awesome retro reference).

In the three-and-a-half years I've had this car, I've gotten so many random unsolicited compliments like this, at gas stations, car washes, parking lots, drive-thru's, &c. that I'm starting to think it can't be a coincidence. Has anyone else had this experience?

I've only had my car a month and really the only "compliment" I've received happened just yesterday. Parked directly in front of a Chipotle and as I was getting out some woman exiting the building looked at me, looked at the ILX, and looked looked back at me and shot me that up and down look haha (you know the one).

Your car does look awesome though. Wouldn't mind having a 2.4 in that color instead of my black.

I had to look up "hi-test" and kept getting back hemagglutination inhibition test.

and then I stumbled upon "High-test".. High octane, or meeting of high standards.

"Hi-Test" (or, I guess, "High-Test") was what everyone called high-octane gasoline before the 1980s, when they started calling it "Super."

Ethyl was my girl. Good old 101 octane I could get for 19 cents a gallon, also called high test before they found out tetraethyl lead is a carcinogen.
I have also had comments, one guy in a parking lot stopped while looking and when I was still 10 feet away I overheard him say "man, what a beautiful car". I said thanks and he spun around (he didn't see me coming) and asked what model and year.
