So, vtec works again! I reset the battery on Tuesday night and went for a little drive last night. I decided to hit vtec and, sure enough, everything went flawlessly. I'm begining to think, it was either oil pressure (which would be hard to believe since the oil level is fine and because vtec works now), or the fuel trims are getting whacked up by the intake because the maf can't read properly (because I didn't bolt down the intake). Going to try bolting down the intake this Saturday and then resetting the battery, as well as changing the oil. I don't want to have to buy fp and switch to a MAP tune just yet.

So this is weird behavior. On rainy days the car doesn't like high rpm driving, I hit 5k and it bogs and bucks. The CEL actually went on and threw the car into limp mode. Turned off the car, drove home and let it sit. The next day, the sun is shining and I drive the car under 3.5krpm to ensure I'm not ruining it (car runs flawlessly under that rpm in the rain or not). After 30 miles of driving (had to go to someone's house), I see some cars on the highway weaving in and out. Of course, these weren't ordinary cars, and I get excited...the cars were an s4, a 2011 v8 camaro, and a 7th gen v6 accord. I'm like f this, let's try and hang...drop the car down from 6th to 4th, floor it and its BAU (business as usual) the car roars to 7100 rpm as I barrel down the road gaining speed a more rampant pass than usual. Much to my confusion, the car is acting fine in different weather scenarios...I should caveat that the AC was on when I was driving in the rain (too humid not too), but I'm just surprised at how the car is acting in this weather. Or answer I can come up with is that the maf is going haywire from the humidity associated with the rain and the intake makes it more susceptible to weather...fortunately, a tune will fix this because I can tune off the map sensor.

It boggles my mind that people have issues but dont call acura or go straight to the dealership to explain and possibly SHOW THEM the issue.
I would have driven to the dealership in limp mode and said "explain that."

Then you're like.. WTF haha.. it's like they're trained to default to "could not replicate the issue" if it would take to long for their "liking"

Lol, I think my intake is causing the issue...that's why I was unsure. And, if you see my recent post, it is fine during warm, sunny days

Sp spdandpwr do you think it has to do more with your intake than the car itself?
Injen offers a prefilter you can put over your existing filter if you think it is due to moister.
Hydrolocking cars has been made sound worse than it is. I mean it is a horrible thing but its not the easiest to accomplish. lol
You need to more or less dunk your intake under water fully submerged for you to really hydrolock the engine. Just a rainy day shouldn't do it.
So for everything has been great though? No rain since?

To be honest, I'm confused why it's acting up. It's definitely not taking in significant water (but maybe some moisture) because the car would be dead. I think the incident is isolated to my car because my bumper popped out a little one day and I bet some moisture got in that day. It's only after that day where the car began this behavior. I've driven the car in rain before it and the car drove fine.

hmmmm. Okay. Built little more confidence in me to buy the AEM intake.
Not sure where I want to go because none of the civic parts that are carb legal will still be carb legal on the wrong platform.
So I want to just make an intake for half but I cant use the stock intake tubing with the maf sensor because it is one piece with the oe air box.
So far I found the AEM CAI for 249.99 shipped
and the ART short ram for 10 bucks cheaper but I bet shipping will then go over so I may just do the AEM intake. I want to go with the injen intake so I have something FOR the ilx but Im sure even then it wont be carb legal yet so it doesnt really matter.

Different strokes for different folks.
Simplest way to explain the difference is one pulls air faster the other pulls air colder.
The AEM V2 actually increases velocity as well with their (i believe) patented design. Different air pressures in ranging parts of the intake allow for the velocity to speed up easily.
The cold air intake puts more strain on the engine to pull air in, but the air will be a cooler temperature. This added with the V2 AEM CAI makes it a GREAT all around intake because the natural high and low pressure areas create increased velocity allowing for the same colder air to get to the engine faster and easier. Increases will be felt higher in the RPM band. Ideal for forced induction set ups when heat becomes a MAJOR factor.
With a short ram, the engine doesn't have to try as hard to get that air... but the air wont be as dense due to the increased temperature. Increases wont be as substantial due to the air flow not being as dense but the gains will be felt quicker as the engine doesn't have to try as hard to breath... like a jogger using a snorkel. Increased throttle response will be felt more in the lower end RPM than with the CAI.
Both have their purposes and to many it is just a matter of taste.
My integra had a short ram that utilized the stock intake arm because acura perfected its design back in the day. No need to upgrade the tubing unless you only wanted to hear the sound of air swooshing through an aluminum tube. The plastic kept it quieter but the enormous K&N Filter matched with a couple intake ducts and a gnarly velocity stack, that bish sucked air like a champ!

I wonder if the CT-E Manifold will be prone to as much heat soak as the LSJ platforms on the Cobalts. You could add 20+ HP just by adding all the additional cooling mods and re-tuning.
I bought the AEM Cold Air intake with the polished finish... Do you guys know if the stickers come already on the piping or do you have to put them on?

The intake comes with stickers that you can put on the piping if you so choose

So someone rear-ended my car and so now I have to deal with that. I'll post pictures once it's up. Since this is my first accident, I'm not sure how to proceed in terms of filing a claim, etc. I called my insurance company to let them know someone hit me and they gave me two options 1) they foot the bill and reimburse my deductable 2) I go through the culprits insurance. They said I can suit for the de-valuement of my vehicle as a result of the accident.

Does look bad, just a popped out rear bumper and whole bunch of scratches. But, you know how it goes, it may look small and cost lots. The person who hit me did not want me to call the police and was very aggressive and shouting me out as untrusting, etc. I'm sorry, but I'm not trusting anybody by not calling the police.

His dad was in the car with him and didn't even argue. He said it was their fault and we exchanged all of our information. I got an estimate from my Acura dealer and the cost of repair plus rental was about $550. The kid's deductible was $500 so the dad just wrote me a check rather than going through insurance. The father was incredibly easy to deal with. I am sure this is not the norm.
My car looked good as ever when I got it back. I guess the positive for me is that I got to drive a rental car (MB C250) for a few days and got my car fixed and waxed for free. Yes I had to waste my time driving to and from the dealer getting an estimate and getting it fixed, but it could always be a lot worse.

Always go through insurance. Get all their info take pictures of everything and you should be fine. If yoy have any doubt that they could claim its your fault call the cops. In a situation like this they can only help.
A friend at work had his truck backed into by a Cadillac. The guy gave him his number and 400 bucks. I even thought 400 was good. He took the truck in and it was 1800 worth of repairs. He called the guy returned the money and is now letting insurance handle it.
I went through some dudes body shop when his little girl pushed in my fender. I felt bad but there isnt a day I had wished I got it fixed the right way.

My first accident, 15 years ago, was a little different.
Only had it for 8 months & got slammed by an F150.

Your insurance policy may have a clause for if you are hit by an uninsured motorist. My old TSX was damaged in a hit and run and coverage for repairs also fell into that category. If they're uninsured, the police could have charged them for operating without insurance and suspended their license. Did you get the other driver's license info, etc?
#400
I got all their info on the police report. But, when following up with their "insurance" for the claim, the company had no record of them being insured under them. Upon further investigation, the company called the family who owned the car about their insurance and they refuse to provide any information and want to file harassment against the insurance company. Worse still is that New York doesn't have uninsured motorist coverage, so I have to pay a deductible. Fortunately, the fact that I didn't hit the other guy (as per police report) means I won't be paying a higher premium.
So, assuming this person is, in fact, uninsured means I basically will lose my deductible (which is 500) and have no guarantee of when, if every I'll get it back.
