Plastidipping ILX wheels.
Seems to me you guys like your DIYs so here ya go.
I actually did this completely by myself so I didnt have someone bitching at me for wanting to take pictures of every step. I tried doing this while installing the suspension but I needed to be more hands on and my friend I had taking pictures was a complete moron and took nothing with a flash.
Anyways. Plastidip is a slow process if you want it done perfect so I'll post this slowly as Im doing it. The DIY should be finished by tonight because I am already half way done.
This is what we want. I'll show you how to get one side down and all you have to do is finish up the opposite side.
This is where we start. Stock wheel color, car on the floor.
Loosen those lug nuts so when you lift the car you can just spin them off.
Get your jack stands ready and lift the car IN A SAFE MANNER.
Car is up. Wheels are off. Put your lugs in a safe place and keep the jack in a raised position to help support the jack stands just in case.
Now I need to take a break because it's damn hot at almost 100 at noon.
Next is to take the wheels outside and clean them off best you can. I like cleaning them completely inside the barrel and out.

More information for those that dont know about plastidip. It is an awesome product. You can apply it anywhere on your car and it will peel off when you are tired of it... as long as you put 2-4 coats.
You can see in the first picture what looks like a pile of nylon or vinyl to the right of the front wheel. That is the extra plastidip I peeled off my tire once the wheel dried. Anywhere there is a 1mm or more gap, even the gap between your A emblem and the backing of the center cap will cause the plastidip to cut itself along the crease of the body and emblem. I peeled the tan off the A emblems but left the center caps tan. Looks great works great. Doesn't have a show status finish. Id suggest real powder coating if you want to win any show awards. But it looks great for your every day tuner.

Here is a close up "teaser" where you can see how the paint peels away where you want it and stays where you leave it. The center caps came out awesome!

Update.
Quick comparison of a finished wheel and oe color.
Get your wheels as clean as you've ever made them. They need to be perfect before you lay down the first coat.
Shake the can for a long ass time until the marble is rattling freely. Give a few sprays onto something else to get an idea how it will be laying down.
Long smooth strokes. You want to be at a distance that wont create a lot of texture but also doesnt lay it on too glossy. I believe it was 5-6 inches.
You can see one wheel with a first coat, the other without.
First coat will be really light. Maybe 50% transparency. Dont worry about it being too blotchy. First two coats will be just a foundation. 3rd and 4th coat you'll want to even it out.
Two bottom spokes aren't touched yet for the first coat.
Let them hang out for about 30 minutes for the first coat. After that I was applying coats every 15-20 minutes but its pretty hot out here.

Be sure to spray onto the tire. Youll want a good amount of layers so it will peel easily off unwanted surfaces.
Second coat done.

After about 4-5 coats you can finish up whenever it looks even to you.
If you got a good amount of over spray on the tire it'll peel off like so.
Peeling off the emblem. You can see I messed up a bit when a leaf or some shit fell on a my wet coat.
Done.
These were taken with my phone with pretty harsh lighting; hence all the wash out but you get the idea.

I'm going to spray some clear coat on them next week maybe. It'll give them a little more depth.
May go white in the future. I personally dont think these wheels are the greatest to color but I'll play around with some stuff before buying new wheels.
Thank you sir. Hope it helps some people.

I never would have thought, before seeing it, that those color wheels would look good on your color car. They look good! Great foresight!

Well I work at a gun range so I see the use of this color everywhere. We call it Flat Dark Earth... not camo tan. lol
But ive learned to love black and f.d. earth on AR builds. Started building my assault rifle with that combo.
I almost went with camo green (olive drab in the real world) on black/charcoal. Would be siiick as well. My next gun purchase will be a black an od green springfield mc operator.
Ill either go white pearl or od green before I buy new wheels.

not sure if its okay to post in your DIY but I also did my rims today in anthracite gray from dipyourcar. I went to their actual location 15 minutes from my house and purchased the plastidip there. It is pretty close to the color of the car, which I was trying to do. Let me know what you guys think!
I have an extra can of the plastidip so I want to do the grille also and see if I like it, otherwise I'll peel it off. now it really needs to be lowered! hopefully by the end of the month I'll have the H&R springs on.

Apparently someone on instagram plastidipped their base wheels purple.
Then I created a scene when someone gave them props for being original. LOL
I dont like when I annoy people I dont know but I cant stand people living under a rock.
Nothing is original anymore, not my cream wheels, not his purple wheels. Not orange wheels on one side, lime green on the other, all with polished 3 stage step lips and an offset that would even make muscle gear heads spin... NOT original anymore. /rant

I have to remember that "there is nothing new under the sun" when it comes to this stuff. If you like it, say you do, if you don't, be cordial and move on. It's not worth the grief, most times, unless you live for it.

It does get quite involved baking your head lamps and removing the plastic cover. But when done right you can do some killer shit with the lights. Id love to do a demon eye look but thats all. Also seen a great write up I believe here on the demon eyes.
