I was all up on this car. I wanted a 6MT in a really bad way. But for an off-the-shelf engine and not much else performance-wise to speak of, why would anyone who wasn't looking for a stylish car want this thing?

 

The 2.4L is supposed to be a sporty car but they didn't even put an exhaust tip on it, it's up under the car like a 12k pos econo box. The car sounds more and more like a huge fail as each day goes by. The 2.4L will also have the same suspension as the hybrid...YAY

 

Must be Honda's plan all along to sell the ILX. Honda designed the civic light crap so they can sell the ILX.

Not sure what they intended with the new styling for Acura TSX and TL designs. Huge fail.. From my guess, they might of been trying to get away from teens modding the cars and trying to lure old retired folks.

 

Personally, I find the "off the shelf engine" to be a wonderful match to Acura's great 6MT. It is a way better match for the ILX than it is for the Civic Si and totally acceptable for a car this size.

I am looking for a small car that is refined, has a high quality interior, is enjoyable to drive, and doesn't have tons of junk I don't need. If the ILX could be had with the 2.4 and tech package, it would be at the top of my list. The closest competitor (for me) is the A4 which doesn't offer anywhere near as much value for $$$.

So you've driven the hybrid model then?? I'm sure everyone here would like to hear your review of the suspension!

 

Who says you need to drive the car to know whether all models will be using the same suspension. It was confirmed at an organized Acura testing.

Really funny that you get to pay all that extra money and they don't even beef up the engine enough to outrun the cheaper Civic Si...

I really think you are missing the point of the ILX... If you are worried about outrunning other cars the you are not the target demographic for the ILX.

 

Kinda disappointed in the projected price point of 27K for a base car w/o leather!

you're right. we're missing the point, because there is no point. total fail by acura. price is way to high for what you're getting in return.

acura is getting seriously left behind by the likes of audi, bmw, mercedes, and lexus.

 

At the end of the day, I was thinking of getting one to soup-up. But now I am thinking this would be a pretty hopeless case. I could be wrong but this car doesn't seem at all like the enthusiast car it is trying to look like or is being sold to be.

 

Get a slightly used TSX for the same money. Granted the 2.4L is not big, but with a 6MT it is peppy. Some slam the TSX, but it is not that bad as some claim. 6MT shifts like butter. Drives great. No BMW or Audi, but pure value

 

I guess we'll have to wait for the ILX to go on sale AND to have the automotive journalists test drive it to make a final judgment. Right now im taking it with a grain of salt. It's probably actually priced right considering its not hard for your average loaded midsized sedan to come close/pass the price of the ILX. I bet there'll be quite a few people in sticker shock when they go to trade in their 10+yr old car for a new one. Prices have easily went up 5-10K in the last 10-15 yrs.

Even the loaded econoboxes break the $20Ks. BUT for $27K the ILX should have leather standard since most of the vehicles in this price range come with it.

 

I don't doubt it would be fun to drive, but infiniti's are looking better and better these days.

 

When i attended the Cleveland Auto Show a little while back, the Acura booth had both the ILX and new RDX on display there. Provided the ILX was just a mere showpiece (cardboard interior, no joke) it still didnt look like Acura actually attempted to make this car. Same can be said for the new RDX. It almost looks like the modern Honda side to Acura has come through and completely just taken the soul out of the designs of these cars.

 

Agreed. I had a 2005 TSX, and it was a great car. Leather, heated seats, ... all standard. Plus the maintenance costs have to be lower compared to Audi or BMW. For $27k the ILX should come with everything except the tech package.

 

This ain't no Honda Civic, it's an Acura and thus being price as an Acura.

If Acura's brand image is on par with Lexus and Infiniti, then the ILX would likely carry a $32K base price tag, the TSX a $40K base price tag, and the TL a $50K base price tag.

Brand image also costs money. There's no free lunch.

^^^^^What he said. Acura is still a premium brand so they are not going to do any damage to its brand equity by selling a car for say, 23-25k. At that price point, the ILX would not be associated with the idea of being a "premium" or "luxury" vehicle.

i'd disagree on this though.. Acura could def. sell this car under 25K.. and max 30K fully loaded. at this price range. most smart consumers will probably get the TSX instead for 2K more. and they would take away Audi a3, IS250 sales as well.

 

based on reviews, it feels overpriced.. at 27K leather should be standard across the lineup.. if there is no stock HIDs, it's a shame as well.

I dislike that is doesnt come with leather standard but people need to quit b******g ab it... a brand new E class doesnt come with leather standard and its a 50k car base price... as far as sporty models a type s model needs to be made even if its just a massaged k24 with 220hp a better suspension and 200lbs of weight cut now that would be a good integra successor Id trade my tsx for.

 

tsx is still a nice car despite what others have to say its not the most popular but who cares

 

I would rather have standard cloth vs the euro makers trying to pass off simulated leather as a premium material. Acura still needs to find itself and where they are trying to be in the market. I can say they are playing it smart by keeping the fully loaded model barley above $30K, but a direct injection 4-cylinder should have at least been offered.

 

I'm more and more annoyed with paying 31k for a loaded up ILX.. especially when my exhaust tips aren't even showing, and as a man that's completely unacceptable for my car to have hidden exhaust tips.

 

How is this car going to even compare to Mazda 3 with all the features? Mazda 3 is the pure value!

The 2.0 engine needs more power than a (hate to say this) Ford focus. LOL...

 

Not gonna lie, I'm considering trading in my tsx for an ilx...the current lease rate of 310 with zero down will make the car cheaper to lease than my tsx, plus ill have a back-up camera and a 6-speed manual. Why shouldn't I bother?

Is that an offer you got for the 6 speed? I got something around 300 with $1,800 down, 12k per, for 39 months.

 

I'm going to do 10k miles. Not for the 6 speed...i have to go in and talk to the dealer. I was hoping colin can weigh in on what to expect with 0 down, given the current offers

 

Went to take a look/test drive the car a few times already. Must say the car looks MUCH better in person. Test drove the 2.4 mt twice. Must admit that its not overwhelmingly quick but is/can be a fun daily driver.

 

^ get a used Mugen Civic Si and called it a day or 1st Gen TSX with the same motor! ILX = Epic Fail IMHO........anyone of us who like bang for buck and could make due without all the tech package stuff know that the civic is the better choice performance wise......If your someone who is ashamed of being caught in a civic and want to fool the unknown about you know drive a better car then the Civic and whatnot then this is the car for you and enjoy it!!!

The sad truth is Acura does not want people modding their rides and want to appeal to over 40 club !!! who just want a ride that looks nice, saves on gas, has the technology package and gets you from A to B in a quiet peaceful manner.....Not saying there is anything wrong with those wanting that but they will be losing some serious money compared to other markets!!!

I wanted it, they will sell quite a few of these believe it or not...
I'm 43 years old with two 10 and 12 year old boys, I've had modded cars over the years including my old CL shown in my avtar.
I've had numerous TL's and MDX's and just traded in my 2008 Audi A4 Cabrio for a new 2013 ILX 2.0 Premium, wife won't drive a stick or I would have purchased the manual.
Have a TSX wagon that the wife and I love but the Audi was too small and too expensive to maintain so I decided on the ILX.
I could have leased a new TL base for almost the same money given the incentives but I wanted something smaller and a bit sporty that got good gas mileage, I'm done with 20 mpg per gallon cars.
The ILX Premium package has all of the goodies I really need, I wish it had a power outlet in the console and homelink but other than that it's fine.
How fast do I need to drive, the 2.0 liter is responsive and quick around town, on the highway it gets the job done. Would it be nice to have a few more ponies, yes but honestly I care more about how the car looks and drives than racing the Civic Si next to me...
Acura has it's priorities in order on the ILX, it's a nice overall package and it's still an Acura.

 

I have to agree with you. We have hand many Acuras, all were brand new.
