ILX Tint

Hello all,

Just purchased a 2013 IlX with tech package,

Recently had my windows tinted. With my last several vehicles they tinted over the third brake light and this time they didn't. Should I ask them to redo the back window or does it look ok as is?

I would leave it. This is the way is should technically be. Don't want to obstruct the brake light.

I have the same color, along with the tint

I have my third brake light exposed, I like it better that way. And with the black interior, it blends nicely. Not sure if the tan interior uses tan trim for the third brake light...might look odd against a dark tint.

ive heard horror stories of insurance claims being denied on the premise of the third brake light being tinted. To clarify, this applies to being rear-ended.

The third brake light isn't required by Texas law, maybe in other states, as long as the other 2 work.

Oh nevermind, I was wrong. I looked at it at night in a dark garage.

Looked at it today, the third brake light is not tinted.

TC, when did you have your previous cars tinted? Maybe these days it is a mandate for tinters to not tint the brake lights if the third is required in the state.

Thanks for the replies.

The last car I had tinted was in 2009.

It doesn't look bad not tinted with the third brake light having a clear lens just different from what I'm used to.

I just got 35 all around last week at a very reputable shop. They said to leave the brake light not tinted because of the way the window is. Since we have the black paint around the brake light, it would show 2 white lines on either side of the black like it does around the edge of the window (you can actually see this in one of Steve's pics). If the light was just butted up against the window with no special markings on the glass, then they would just slide the tint between the light and the glass.

I have the tan interior btw and the brake light trim is black/gray facing the exterior.

The brake light was actually something i've been debating, so I'm glad someone brought it up. I think they made the right decision.

Steve, car looks great btw!
