ILX Spring Options

Yes I did, It's usually best to do it right away.
Camber isn't as big as of issue as correcting the toe to make sure you're tires don't wear out right away.
but yea... if you're gonna lower your car and spend the money to lower your car.....don't cheap out.... get an alignment...

also if anyone is curious about alignment specs and if they will need camber kits etc.
The front is pretty much bang on, with in spec (as close to zero camber and zero toe) with out a camber kit on a drop from tein springs.
The rear would require a camber kit to get within spec. I'm sitting at about -2 (which in all honesty is fine with me), and that's about the best we could get it too.

Did you write down your toe and camber specs before you did the alignment so we have a judge of how off they may be?

I wouldnt say not getting an alignment is cheaping out in any way. Just lowering 1.5in the toe shouldnt have changed much at all. If your toe was way off and im wrong let us know.
I know this is a constant argument on forums. But I ran over -3 camber on my integra with extremely light off balanced wear.
Toe is the killer. But it seems like its prettu close to spec and like I said I cant imagine the toe changing much after 1.2-1.5 inch drop.
Now going 3inches lower with coils. Completely different story.

I had a sheet somewhere but I threw it out. I remember it was a touch off spec.
I ran it for two weeks before I had time to go get an appointment for an alignment. I filled up twice in those two weeks and noticed I was getting about 20-30km less per tank. I'm sure some variation could be argued it was where I was going, or how hard I was driving etc... but I'm sure my L/100km went up... I do have a fairly regular driving schedule.
Anyways, up to you what you wanna do... I say if you're gonna do it... do it right.

I agree with "if you are gonna do it do it right" I will be putting front and rear camber kits on the car when I drop it, but I will be going lower than 1-1.5inch's and using coilovers not just springs.
Even if I were to use springs I would probably still get camber kits, but its just how I roll. I would rather have the car as close to spec as possible unless tracking or doing a lot of canyon driving, but thats just me.
so I guess I am not a good example...LOL!

Oh ouch. Ive recently seen an increase in my mpg; though I dont relate it to lowering the car. That makes better sense though. I noticed my mpg was stuck at 23.8 for a while and sometimes even dropped to .7
I went from using the middle range gas to the lower end when I took my take past 0 and I noticed since then my mpg has been steadily increasing. Now at 24.1 and it has been about a month of using the lower end gas.
Saying it is from lowering the car would make more sense, but Ive not adjusted my toe and I figure I would have seen the increases back when I lowered it; not now.
Camber kits in my opinion are preference.
Fixing toe is a MUST... Im just not worried at all only being lowered 1.5in

well I guess I'll be getting an alignment then, thanks guys! I'm lowering my ILX sometime this week and also hooking up 20mm and 25mm akata spacers as well. Pics will be up soon.

So you didn't get an alignment ?

I don't think you need to get get camber kits when you're running just springs. I think it's only when you got lower than 1.5" will you need them.

I think running 20mm and 25mm spacers might be alittle too much. I'm currently running 15 and 20, and the rears are pushed-out a little too much for my liking. My wheels are offset +48 and stocks are +45, so your application will be sticking-out 3mm further. As it stands now, my fronts are pretty much flush with the top of the fender, and the rears stick-out ever so slightly. I have since ordered another set of 15's to push my rears back in alittle. Post pics!

Yeah i thought about doing that fitment but wanted more flush and wanted my wheels to poke out more. Do you think ill have any fender rub? I'm dropping my car 1.5-1.3 as well

Correct me if Im wrong but I have heard the use of Spacers puts extra stress on the hub/wheel bearing and will cause premature failure? For you Spacer afficianados is there any truth to that?
It was explained to me that moving the balance of weight distributed to the wheels further out puts added stress on them and causes them to wear out earlier than normal? I dont have first hand experience with spacers, but since hearing that wanted to confirm if it was true or not

No. I only lowered it 1.5 inches so the toe wont be very far off. Sumo said himself it was very close to spec. Im not worried at all. Especially since Im getting new rubber come the new year. Only issue is wear without an alignment and since the drop was so minimal wear wont be very bad at all.
Its purely preference. Whether you want your wheels perfectly vertical or you like a little camber to grab the road in a high G turn. It's preference. Springs will give you camber even at only a 1in drop so if you want it spec you need a camber kit. I prefer to roll on stock camber.
Pictures?

Here you go! Eibach Pro-Kit on the ILX.
Note that I have 20mm wheel spacers installed in the rear; 15mm spacers for the front have already been ordered and on their way. At +48 offset, the wheels had the appearance of being tucked inside the wheel well. With the wheel spacers, it's just about flush and gives it that aggressive stance.
And a before shot!

Looks like whoever was looking to get coilovers installed first has missed their chance.
Crappy picture from instagram but its an ilx lowered on megan coils. A cheaper alternative that wont render near an oe ride quality but looks great still.

Azine says your inbox is too full to send you a pm so here ya go...
Well lowering the car period will lower its center of gravity as well as drag making it less wind resistant. Any springs will give that.
The stiffness is pretty much the same as stock since im using the stock springs but it is a little bouncier having these smaller profile springs but not very much at all. In comparison to tein or eibach id say go h&r. In comparison to full coilovers id say get full coilovers.

help please
Hey guys! So I own a 2013 Acura Ilx. I have kept her stock for a good year and would like to get some springs for her originaly I was going with eibach pro kit for a subtle drop, but do you know if the sport kit for a 2013 Honda Civic si would fit the car? It's more of a drop than the pro! Thanks for any help or suggestions

Are you going with the civic set because you already have them or something? They should fit, but eibach makes a specific set (pro kit) for our car already.
#104
oh ahhh i see... sorry I didn't see the bigger drop part.... but I think the H&R's drop a little more then the Eibach too... I recommend you just play it safe and get something made specific for the car.

[QUOTE=sumo_ilx;14539262]I would say they maybe closer to 1.4,1.5?
just a touch lower than I thought, but that being said the reason I went with this set is because of the crazy snowstorms we get here in Edmonton Alberta.
Did you have to cut some of the bump off the front when you installed your springs?

As per the eibach website, the part number for the civic si and ilx are the same for the sport lines. I actually bought mine locally from someone who had them for a civic

anybody know a good shop in southern cali to install lowering springs? i'm thinking of getting sportlines after the dealer looks into the rear suspension noise in my ilx...

I found a few other options right now - Truhart springs - NEVER heard of them, they got full "shocks systems". $140 for springs and $270 for sport shocks... right...... Moving on.... D2 Racing has a 2 inch all around drop on their spring set for the SI, would also work for our car. But they have a 2012-13 SI set and a 2014 SI set (different part #'s) they should/ could work for our car. But will the drop be the same? More or less /probably. Found online (cheapest) for roughly $135 and change. Couldn't really find reviews... too new of a product... Price and drop seems like maybe worth the risk?

Swift Springs has a stellar reputation, and a big pice tag. I was getting prices of $300+ for the SI set... may do this myself tho, to try something different from what others have. Also doesn't hurt that their distribution center is about 10-15 minutes away from me. Swift Spec-R - 1.2 front, 1 inch rear

Skunk 2's springs for the 2012 SI I myself was leaning towards, because of cheap price and big drop, but several issues came up when I did a generic google forums review search. I STRONGLY recommend against them. First sets that went out had the wrong front springs! They are not even available from Skunk2 anymore, they are on "backorder". What are the chances that a vendor has an old set sitting on the shelf, unaware of the mis-fitment? As evidence of product sitting - my wheel spacers that came in today. One has different labeling and packaging. And one set was stamped with manufacturing date (09/13) One is even older apparently, but has no stamp date, and since black anodized finish is "newer" for H&R spacers, the older box doesn't even picture the black anodized finish at all! I cracked open the boxes immediately to confirm it wasn't the wrong part. Also many complained of squeaking noises. Honestly, just don't risk it bro. They were advertised at a little more then 2 inches - if you feel like risking it, D2 Racing has a similar drop at 2 inches all around, and a cheap price.

If you have the money go with coils.
Coils will have nicer ride and you actually have control of the height.

whoops heres the pic of the 2 boxes of the wheel spacers. I checked again. The older wheel spacer box has sun fade to it, and doesnt picture the "newer" black anodized finish. The spacers are stamped 05/12 so over 2 years! No biggie for my spacers, but what if ya get that bad batch of skunk2's! NOoooooooo DONNNNNTT dooo IIIIITTTTTT! NOOOOoOOOOoooooOOOOO!!!!!

Guys! For those of you that have Coils/Springs installed, how do you rate your ride? I'm looking for something that will stiffen the suspension up and provide a 1~1.5" drop.
My only concern is bounciness. Is there a good setup that will provide a nice drop, while still providing some performance gains without the kicking me off the seat while going over bumps at highway speeds?
Thanks!

H&R is a pretty popular choice. I have them and upgrade in performance outweighed stiffness and harshness going over bumps for me.
Depends on Tires too - if you with a 40mm height on lowering springs you will feel 2 things - 1: night and day difference in tire roll and overall handling and 2: a much harsher ride when compared to stock springs and tires

have always been a fan of the H&R springs, i had them on my 2012 tsx and just installed them on my '15 ilx, stock springs make the car look like a 4x4 imo and even with a slight bumpy feeling with the H&R's I wouldn't call it harsh. Definitely improved the handling for a good price.
Have RPF1 17x8 +35 offset on the way, just joined the site, as soon as I can post pics I will do so
