ILX Owners, I need your help!
ILX Owners, I need your help!
So, I have some questions for you ILX owners. A family member of mine recently bought a 2015 ILX and so far they've had a host of issues that I can't seem to find much on.
1. The leather surface of all of the seats in the car is showing significant deformation already. The car doesn't even have 1000 miles on it yet, and the driver weighs maybe 100 lbs. I would expect this level of wear from a car north of 50,000 miles, but not one with under 1000. The Acura factory rep has already looked at the seats and said that they aren't right and will pay to have the dealer re-finish the seats (add extra padding, restitch the leather, etc).
2. The release for the gas gap doesn't spring back into position when pulled. It seems that the mechanism doesn't work.
3. The HomeLink range is pretty abysmal. The car has to be within a few feet of the garage door for it to work. My car (a 2012 TSX) can be coming down the street and get the HomeLink to work when I do come over. They have a pretty steep driveway and live in a very snowy area, so as the winter looms, this is becoming a bigger concern.
4. The car does not start at random times and in random weather conditions. 4 Times in the last week the car has failed to start on the first attempt. This isn't one isolated incident of the car not starting, and it doesn't happen with any consistency.
My TSX has been a great car since I bought it with no major issues, but the fact that issues are clustering like this on a brand new ILX is extremely concerning to me. Needless to say my family member is extremely unhappy, and I'm at a loss for what to say to them anymore. Any insight you actual owners can offer is appreciated!

2. I am not 100% sure what you mean. But I would venture to say there is an issue since my gas cap works perfectly. I would show the dealer.
3. Agreed. My homelink range sucks.
4. I have heard of another ILX owner saying the same. I am not sure what their outcome was though. They did mention it here I believe.
As for your TSX, keep in mind your TSX is if anything based on the Accord, a more premium car than the ILX is based on, the Civic. So I would say if your family member is comparing their ILX to your TSX then the ILX will sadly fall short pretty much everywhere. They could get a used TSX for near the same price but the TSX is generally a more expensive car.
Based off #1,2,and 4 I would say your friend should try to claim a Lemon Law car. Might be able to get a newer ILX or at least one that may not be experiencing the same pit falls. You may be able to add #3 to the mix saying the signal is so poor you believe there may be an issue with the receiver in the car. Though they may tell you #3 is normal.
Good luck to your family member. I will say I absolutely love my ILX. I will say its not nearly the quickest car but I love the fit and finish on everything so I would say your family member may have purchased a lemon.
1. That doesnt seem right. Glad the dealer plans to fix the issue. If it is indeed missing padding then that was probably the work of a crappy employee on the production line. That happens, but glad they are fixing the issue.

I've been suspecting with all the issues that have popped up in a cluster like this that this particular ILX may be a dud, and it seems like that may be a case.
As for #2, the lever in the car stays upright once it's pulled, it doesn't spring back down.
The dealership is being as helpful as they can be, and this is the 4th Acura my family has bought with them over the last 14 years. They have always treated me and my family in an absolutely fantastic manner, but this is a disheartening situation to say the least. I guess I'll do some digging into the Lemon Laws to see what would be covered. I really don't want to go down that route if I can avoid it, but it may be the only option. I suppose the good news is, we've been such loyal customers over the years that the owner of the dealership came to meet my family member in person when they picked up their car, so maybe that buys some leverage.
With a lemon law the problems tend to be an iceberg. You may find more and more so I highly suggest following the lemon law steps if the car can be labeled as one.
I now understand what you mean by the gas lever. That is definitely wrong. My lever springs back up or down after I lift or pull it.

2. Most likely a minor issue - a cable or spring that is broken... Happened to one of my previous cars, but the gas door wouldn't even open

3. Sounds like something is off - either with your garage door opener or the Homelink. I have Genie garage door openers and my ILX's homelink works from ~3-4 car lengths away
4. Had the same problem on my 2013 ILX Hybrid Tech - Couple times between 12k and 16k miles IIRC. Went through 2 batteries, and 1 hybrid battery --> Problem went away until recently, car wouldn't start 2 weeks ago & had a lot of warning lights (36xxx miles)
Seat foams are machine made from a mold. There is no human employee stuffing padding into a seat or hand cutting the foam. How would a "crappy employee" cause the seat foam to be missing padding?
Once the seat foam is made, it is shipped to a factory where the seat is assembled.
After that, it is shipped to Honda where an assembly line worker puts it into the car.

Oh well.

My seat leather's fine at 108,000 miles aside from being 'stretched out' along the seat bottoms. I guess that means my passengers and I are too heavy. The area that's really showing wear is the dang steering wheel. Seems to be wrapped in really thin leather. It easily scratches, bunches, etc. I'll have to post a pic later of some of the wear which I think is a bit much.
Hope you get the rest of your concerns ironed out. The ILX is really a great car if you can look past a few of its quirks. I'm loving mine still.

OP....with regards to your problem:
1. I weigh about 115lbs and have no issues with the leather seats.
2. I have the same problem, I pull my lever and it will stay up too.
3. My homelink SUCKS!
4. No problem with starting the car
Hope this helps....

4crusin I hear you on the steering wheel!! This is now my only gripe with the total fit and finish.
One day after 2 years of use I noticed a small... I guess what you called bunching.
Since then it has escalated quite quickly. All on the bottom of my wheel not the sides or top.
I have wondered now for weeks if I have been snagging something like my clothes or a zipper as I get out of the car but have not been able to figure it out.

1. Almost 28k miles, leather seats perfect except for a bit of normal wear on driver's seat
2. Trunk lever - pull; Gas cap - push. Ive had no issues and I use it at least twice a week
3. No Homelink on my 2.4 can't comment
4. No issues with starting my car even after 3 or 4 days at a stretch of not starting it
