Heated seats question
Heated seats question
Hey all,
I recently purchased a 2014 ILX...enjoying it very much so far, especially the fantastic transmission! I love how the car loves to rev, and it truly is a pleasure to shift and drive around!
Onto my question for you guys. The heated seats on my car are slow to heat up. Even on "high", they take a good 5 - 10 mins before they are really warm. And once they are warm, they are not super hot (warm enough to feel them working for sure though). I'm trying to figure out if I need to go back to the dealer for a fix or if this is just a normal characteristic of this car. Do you guys have the same experience?
For comparison, my last car (Subaru), the seats would heat up in 30 seconds to a minute on "high", and the heat output on the "low" was similar to what my current ILX does on the high setting.

The time my 2013 tech takes to heat up is rather slow... but the higher setting gets pretty dam hot. Enough so that I rarely use it in winter. Pretty much just to speed up the warm up process then I drop it to low once I feel it.
The U.S. government actually tell the auto manufactures how fast the seat are allowed to heat up. As in how hot overall and how fast they get to max temp. There was a stop sale this past spring on Toyota Sienna vans due to the seats heating too fast! I'm sure someone will think I'm crazy and this is too weird. I understand. I work at a dealership and it did happen.
Maybe it's a general Acura thing, or maybe it's just newer cars. I know on my mom's RDX, the seats take a very long time to heat up too, sometimes it's hard to tell whether or not the seat is even on. For age comparison, our 1999 BMW's heated seats heat up very quickly, like 2 minutes, and are really hot. So hot, in fact, that it's hard to sit on them in the high position for more than ten minutes or so.
I agree, all 6 of my recent Acura have had slow heating response time....I am not sure why that is the case. Most other brands warm up so much faster so I know Acura could improve there.
There is nothing worse than sitting in a cold car in the morning and having to wait 10 minutes before the seats warm up....I usually provide a little assistance with some natural gas
