Lightbulb Front Map Light Modding

Hey guys,

I'm in the process of modding the map lights. I was able to take the front roof module out to get to the lights(screenshots below). I'm not sure what bulbs these are though. Could someone help me identify what type of LED bulb these are? I'll also need to find a soldering iron to borrow soon since I left mine in California. :/

Those are surface mount LEDs. They are going to be very difficult to de-solder and re-solder a new LED in its place.

Search on "SMD LED"

Wow, very detailed DIY. I'm not an LED bulb pro but it sounds like Rocket Man has pointed you in the right direction.

Good luck!

De-soldering and re-soldering things is not an issue for me since I've been doing it for several years now. I just wasn't familiar with these SMD numbers. I went to the hobby store and the guy told me the numbers stood for the dimensions.

3020 SMD = 3.0 mm X 2.0mm
2528 SMD = 2.5 mm X 2.8mm

He recommended I buy 3020s so I'll be ordering a couple this weekend. I found one on Ebay but they don't show how bright or white these LEDs are: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/400616636599?lpid=82
Anyone know a good place to buy SMD lights? Otherwise I might just end up ordering from ebay and hope for the best....

Ok, so the SMD LEDs finally came in....and they're the wrong color(warm white). I ordered from another seller, going to wait another 3-4 weeks for these to come in....
