Just wanted to get the opinion of others as to the utility of the extended dealer warranty (8 years, 100,000miles). I did not purchase it at the time and have been thinking more and more about getting it. Acuras/Hondas are known for their reliability, but since this is a first generation ILX (presumably with some kinks), is it worth the money (~$1500) to double the warranty time?

 

I didn't get it. Simply because the possibility of me selling/trading in is very high in 4 years. Having kids and such.

I normally get extended warranties for my big ticket items as they have come in very handy in the past but those examples are going from 1 year to 4 years. Not 4 to 8.

 

I didn't get the extended warranty and Consumer Reports generally advises against them. Seems like a waste of money.

 

This is the dealer backed extended warranty. I know to stay away from third party offers.

But after reading the fine print and talking with the dealer, it seems that the dealer backed warranty will offer more comprehensive coverage (Luxury Deluxe Package) than the standard Acura 4 year 50K . So, in effect, after 4 years from years 4 to 8 of ownership, my coverages will increase... I am not so much worried about the car proper, but more so with the computer, HDD, and other technologies on board. Maybe someone can speak on their reliability...
