Exposed exhaust.

I am curious as I was in a previous thread how many people in here or have seen an exposed exhaust on the ilx I have a 17 and would love to have a slightly deeper tone and exposed exhaust. So I am curious if and how many people have that done and how they did it. pictures are encouraged.

I built my own cat-back system (excuse to learn TIG). All 304 stainless with Varex valved muffler for quiet/loud switch.
Here's my progress thread https://acurazine.com/forums/ilx-pho...inally-956986/

The only science applied was for 2.5"+ and tune for sound.

Where did you get the black trim that covers the exhaust?

Those are the stock A-spec bumper inserts.

Did you cut them? Can you teach me how you made them to fit on your exhaust?

I used a rotary grinder (like a dremel) with a bur. Fairly easy even with my arthritic, shaky old man hands.
The hardest part was matching left to right.

Did the same thing, very nice job with cutting the trim DaIll1. So you just basically removed the reflector and made two round holes ?

Going to give it a try and not screw up the oem part X.X. Was thinking about doing a 3D print based on the original part but now that I see the result it would be much more easier to just do the same thing and hope for the best...

I cheated. I traced the tip to the insert and cut the holes, then mounted the tips.
The tips are body mounted, not attached to the exhaust pipe. If your tips are mounted to
the exhaust, the heat and vibration will transfer and rattle and possibly melt the plastic around them.
Notice the gap.

This is a great job. I wanna ask if anyone here would consider using stock mufflers from a TL S type. Their muffler tips are tappered and i think the bumper line is similar to the ILX...versus straight across like the dark grey ILX. Would the S Type mufflers fit in the back.
