Dual exhaust? Custom diffuser

So I was feeling brave today and I'm getting tired of the hidden exhaust bull... Looking for some opinions about it since it's a hit or miss.

Going to cut at those two spots so I can still have the "oem rear underbody spoiler" and throw on maybe an s2000 exhaust

Here are some "diy" rear diffuser ideas, wanted something similar

Overall how the car looks, aiming to make the rear more aggressive to match the front. I have side skirt splitters and canards/splitters for the front already just too lazy to throw them on but this is how my ilx sits as of a now.

Good luck!!
Do you have an exhaust in mind already?
Id love to see the skirts put on. I was looking around myself but I think I just want to go with the OEM kit in the future when I have the money.

I like the second smaller picture of the two diffusers. Less metal more plastic/carbon looking I think would be the best bet.

Car looks awesome already. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the exhaust.

You may want to take measurements before cutting the bumper. I have the dual exhaust done on my car and I had to take a 2x4 and a hydralic jack to press the spare tire well out of the way enough for the piping not to show.

Depending on what exhaust you want, there is not enough room in the back for mufflers.

@usdmjon when the day comes and I'm feeling fearless and full of energy, I will throw everything on lol. Everything I have so far can still be an add-on to the oem kit.

As for the diffusers, it's just to throw an idea out there. I'm gunna build something similar possibly out of fiberglass or aluminum to keep it lightweight. Then possibly wrap it in carbon fiber.

@4cruizn thanks bro ! But I'm just getting started on this build (: got a long way to go before she sits how I want her too.

@switt23 I've already taken the measurements and the issue is if I can actually hang an s2000 muffler back there or if I'd just have to delete the muffler and throw on two pipes. As far as hiding the muffler, the diffuser is going to take care of that. I hope... Right now it's just a long debate, thinking process, and measuring.

I had purchased Dynomax Super Turbo Mufflers.. pretty darn tiny... wouldn't fit. I'm not talking about the height though, I am also talking from behind the rear axle to a muffler tip out the back. To do a decent 90 degree turn without impacting air flow, it takes a few inches away and then most mufflers won't fit with a tip.

I think I'm just gunna have to go with no muffler then. So I can eliminate some space issues and just have a tip on it for a simply clean look. Will probably be louder but I don't mind. I haven't gotten to take apart the rear end yet but it already looks like there's gunna be issues for fitment.

I will see if I can post a decent video clip for you tonight if you want. I took the muffler off and left the resonator on and have pretty much the exhaust you are talking about. It's not bad at all. Not raspy, but can have a little drone when it's cold out.

Ohh please do so ! The more I plan it out, the smoother it should sail. I hope. Did you swap out the downpipe ? I feel weird knowing there are two cats on our cars.

I'd like to swap the downpipe, but I have a 2.0L. Only a handful that will fit and from that handful I haven't found any quality pieces.

Ohh I thought you had the 2.4L. Your best bet would be to have someone custom make one. So mine would sound a little different from yours considering I have a bigger motor. I'm hoping it still sounds clean. I haven't taken the plastic oe diffuser/cover but it looks like I can work with it.

The Megan downpipe would get the job done until something better comes up. Thats what I plan for my 2.0

I'm not too worried about the downpipe right now. Come summer the car is getting boosted so I will be making a custom downpipe and charge pipes then anyway.

Here is the best I could do tonight for exhaust vids.

Exhaust 1

Exhaust 2

I only plan to run roughly 8 psi. Very conservative tune. Figured 240-250hp would be plenty.

It's going to be warm this week and I have Wednesday off. I will try and get the go-pro strapped down.

Glad to see you posting more Switt. Need to hear more from the 2.0 tuners.
Cant wait to get my exhaust figured out. As well, Ill be looking into a turbo around the same psi numbers. 7min 9max. Not for a few years though.

That's why I bought the audi . I can tear into the ILX now and still have a ride to work.

Well I dont even have a shop when I need so even if I had another daily the ILX wouldnt get touched.

Not sure what will happen when it comes time for me to turbo it. It'll be easier to say when the time gets closer.

I've been under a rock for the past few days (Exams at school all week) but am very glad -and excited- to come back and see this thread!

@slaammed, make it happen! S2000 tips would be so sick, not sure about a difusser just yet. I would hold off on that part and see how you and everyone likes just the tips with the center painted black first or something. That way you have less regrets if you do cut your bumper for the diffuser and don't like it.

@Switt, nice videos, sounds really nice too! Looking forward to more when possible.

Cut my bumper for exhaust and diffuser, painted white to match. I'm happy with it.
