Convertible? Ever?
Convertible? Ever?
This is totally a pipe dream thread, but I have been thinking about an Acura convertible a lot lately. I'm pretty much determined that my next car be a convertible, but I would love to stay with the Acura brand. The convertibles I am most interested in are the BMW 2 series and Audi A3. They seem nice enough, but they are very expensive with low feature content. You can't even get the A3 convertible with power seats!
I would also consider an IS convertible, but they are pretty freakin ugly. I really think there is space in the market for more high quality/reliable Japanese convertibles and luxury Japanese convertibles specifically.
Just wanted to see if anyone else had thoughts on this.

I changed my mind; you are not alone...
To be frank, I never understood the allure or the reasoning, for that matter, behind the aftermarket conversion of 4-door sedans to convertibles, but I guess each to his own taste.
While we're on the subject of taste (or the lack thereof…), the drop-top specialists over at Newport Convertible Engineering (NEC) from Placentia, California, have sharpened their scalpels on the roof of an Acura TL sedan turning it into a 4-door cabriolet with a center roll-bar to keep things in place. The gold stripes running down the middle are the cherry icing to this strangely flavored cake.
Looking at NEC's other creations, I found a couple new proposals for roofless versions of Hyundai's Equus luxury sedan and the Aston Martin Rapide sports saloon, renders of which can be found right below the break.

Not sure about an Acura, but for years I've thought Honda should offer a Civic convertible, partly because I think the current two-door design could look great in that config. An Si variant would be especially sweet, and a nice four-seat alternative to the Miata.
Unfortunately, convertible sales have tanked, so whatever business case may have existed has probably evaporated:

I was going to post that TL too lol. Terrible.
I've never minded convertibles when the top is down. But unless it's a hardtop, they all look bad in my opinion. Plus why ruin that gorgeous C-pillar most coupes have.

I found the slammed coupe "typeS" design and made it a convertible using a BMW coupe.
