The Battery Is Dead and Needs Multiple Jump-Starts 2012
Anyone know if there is a similar TSB for the ILX? My battery seems weak. It didn't start the other day in -20c, which admittedly is cold but not cold enough that it shouldn't start..
The Battery Is Dead and Needs Multiple Jump-Starts - TSB 12-041
SYMPTOM
The vehicle has sat for at least two days, has a dead battery, and needs multiple jump-starts to start the engine.
NOTE:
A dead battery could be normal depending on the battery condition, battery age, and how long the vehicle has sat. This software update will have no effect on these conditions.
A jump-start should only be used to get the vehicle to a service station or dealer. It should not be used to fully charge the battery.
There are many other possible causes that a vehicle needs multiple jump starts such as a faulty alternator, a faulty or sulfated battery, a parasitic draw, or loose battery cables.
If a battery is sulfated, the sulfate makes charging the battery more difficult. After the battery is properly charged, the effect of the sulfation is reduced so that in most cases, the battery will not need another jump start.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The vehicle’s battery sensor monitors battery condition and the PCM determines charging mode. Based on the sulfation of the battery and customer driving habits the PCM may not select the correct charge mode.
VEHICLES AFFECTED
2012 Civic Si 2-Door:
From VIN 2HGFG4A..CH700001 thru 2HGFG4A..CH703235
2012 Civic Si 4-Door:
From VIN 2HGFB6E..CH700001 thru 2HGFB6E..CH703684

Summer is Coming
Battery could be bad, take it to the dealer, they should be pro-rated under warranty. Autozone will test it for free.

Changed to 0w20 Full Synthetic, unplugged the ELM327 OBD reader and haven't had a problem since. Likely more to do with the synthetic oil flowing much easier then the potential power drain of the reader..
Stay tuned, it'll only get colder here!

Hey I've had identical issues with my 2013 hybrid. I travel weekly and leave my car in the airport garage. For several consecutive weeks when the temp went cold, the battery would be dead on my return. Also happened when I did not drive the car for several days at a time. Acura tested the battery and said it was charging fine so initially did not replace. After this event occurred again, I recorded the dead battery on my iphone video, and complained that it was fully functioning I would not have this issue, they replaced the battery under warranty. No issues since.

It's been -27 to -30 Celsius here the past few days. Car has started OK but it's also been mostly in the garage where it's warmer. I still think the Product Recall for the 2012 Civic charging may be an issue for the ILX as well.
I called the local Acura dealer and they said there was no product update for the ILX. I wonder if it's the case of few ILX's compared to Civic's and they aren't aware yet?
In Canada it's called campaign L95 - Battery Management System.
What is the Problem?
On certain 2012 Honda Civic, the battery management system software in the Powertrain control module can misinterpret the battery state of charge, resulting in an insufficient charge cycle for the battery.

Thought I would share what happened to me. I had to call roadside 3 times since December because the car wouldn't start,
Had my Acura dealer test the battery and they found that it had a dead cell so the battery was replaced. I've only had my car 6 months
I would suggest getting your battery tested if you have any issues.

Since I had the no start, I changed to Synthetic 0w20, bought a battery warmer and always turn on my headlights to ensure the alternator is always charging the battery.
-32c today and no problems starting.
