I recently purchased 16 ILX (decided to take some discounts)
and I just read an article saying that 16 ILX is affected by the takata airbag recall.
I did some research and found out that only the early production of 16 ILX are affected.
I entered my VIN in NHTSA website and it said that there is no open recall for this VIN.
Does this mean that my ILX is not affected?

I think you answered your own question there. Why don't you call your acura dealership and get an answer from the horses mouth?

 

Yes, your car is NOT effected by the recall. Only the early Model 2016's and earlier years were effected.

As a matter of fact, your car is the reason why so many of us 2013-2016 ILX owners were stuck waiting for Huge Back Order shipments of the new airbag inflators.

When the recall was made, all updated airbag inflators were immediately given priority to new cars coming off the assembly line. By law, they could no longer build vehicles with the recalled inflators. As a result, all of us current owners had to wait in line before dealerships would have them in stock again.

I drove a complementary rental vehicle while my fleshly detailed ILX sat comfortably in the garage waiting for the parts to arrive. (I was able to keep my car at home while my dealer was waiting for the back ordered parts)

I think I put a good 3,000 miles on my rental car. Took a few road trips, had some fun at the beach without worrying about getting sand everywhere etc. Most people huffed and puffed, screamed lemon law and demanded buy backs etc.... I simply enjoyed letting my car rest at home, safely in the garage, while I put the daily wear/tear on my rental car.

 

I really dont want to not drive my car but at the same time it would be nice to put a tone of miles on a rental. But stock height? UUUUUGH! Fuck that.

 

I have two other Acuras that were affected by the airbag recall and I got a rental BMW X3 to drive for about 2 months. It was actually great driving a decent rental car.

 

Took my car in yesterday for the recall. Job was done in less then 45 minutes.

 

safercar.gov and Recall Information for Safety & Defects | Acura Owners Site are the two best ways to check if your vehicle has a recall. Early 2016's were affected, and most dealerships have the supply now to do the recall fix. If it is under recall, call the dealer, and ask for a loaner car. Each dealership gets a small reserve to take care of a loaner car for you. (They will use their Acura loaners first, but if not will send you to a rental car company).
