VOIP hardware and network question

Dang it, didn't know I needed a router. I rtfm but apparently I missed the router part. My cable modem does not have an extra Ethernet plug and I prefer an ethernet connection vs a USB so I assume I need a router.

Now I don't know much about routers so bare with me. I want to leave my internet wire connected to the router and I have a Nintendo Wii in my family room while my PC and cordless phone are in my bedroom. Obviously said router would be near my PC for the wired connection of my PC's internet. And then I would wirelessly connect my Wii.

Please let me know if I'm thinking correctly. Do I have to get a "G" or "N" router. I assume these are different tiers of superiority? I, honestly, am on a tight budget and is why I switched from a POTS line to a VOIP and I sometimes see routers for less than $15 on techbargains. I really don't care about the speed of the Wii and as stated before, I assume since the internet on my PC is hard wired, I won't lose too much speed.

Thanks for your help
